shrimp in another thread).

Mmmmmmm.

Any other fans here?

Lightly breaded, with horseradish dip.

You're kidding! They've been commonplace in most places I've lived. Other
favorites are breaded and deep fried zuchinni, cucumber, pepper strips,
whole green beans and others. Several restaurants we used to frequent back
in Ohio offer a mixed platter of all these goodies as an appetizer, served
with various dips. Yummy, and half healthy...the veggies, not the deep
frying.

Oh gawd, you kidding? I would kill for an order. The trouble is not a lot
of burger joints sell them. Deep fried button mushrrooms are the best. I
love them with bleu cheese or ranch dip.

Good lord, woman, where have you been? Popular "snack" in restaurants.
Battered and deep fried button mushrooms with a dipping sauce (usually mayo
based). Why, we've even heard of them down here in Tennessee!

I love breaded fried squash, okra (that one requires cornmeal). But fried
cheese comes to mind There was this place in (long gone) that made cubes
of battered swiss that were to die for. Same treatment with mozzarella is
great!

Yup. Love 'em. They are very popular here as a 'starter' in a lot of
restaurants.

Had a great dip on a Florida pier sea food house. Mixed ranch
dressing with horseradish and garlic powder. Really a good taste for
onion rings and mushrooms.

Fried okra is one of my favorite things. I just wasn't thinking of it in
the same group as an appetizer, but no reason not to.

I dunno. Maybe it's because I don't do appetizers unless I'm going
straight for the goodies like a plate of fried calamari. Why fill up
on vegetables and fries when you can stuff yourself with those babies?
