I've never seen mushrooms tempura and I suppose some preliminary cooking would be needed but probably onion rings, which I have seen, require some work other than just frying. I may have mentioned it before but, of all tempura vegetables, I like sweet potato best but zucchini and other squash aren't bad. You can keep broccoli tempura but the same applies to broccoli in most shapes and forms! I love sweet potato tempura too! I have never seen deep fried mushrooms either, but they might make decent tempura. I'll do tempura at home every now and again. I usually do sweet potatoes, zucchini, broccoli, and pickled jalapeno slices. Oh, and sometimes green beans and shrimp for the kid and for the DH. -Tracy i'll put in a vote for green beans also. your pal, blake |

Add deep fried pickles to the list and those are very tasty. Add sauerkraut balls, okra, green tomatoes and some cauliflower to the list of course. Heck, in the South, if you can cut it to bite size then batter it, flour it, or cornmeal it and fry it, it's a hit. Cindi o.k., the sauerkraut balls are a new one on me. your pal, blake |

There used to be a place up there called Bella Vista which only seemed to do fried fish and fried chicken with (what else) fries and coleslaw. All you can eat with a nice view as bonus. That went belly up years ago. Have eaten at 'High Finance' up on the Peak, but not the Mexican-type place 'Sandiago's'. |

I know what you mean. I'll be served something GREAT with a tempura batter and it turns out to be from a box. Miso (soup) - same thing. Add water to powder, tastes just like what you'd get in a restaurant. I would give anything for a "good" hot/sour soup mix. |

As far as I know, both the Outback and Bennigans chains have fried mushrooms on their appetizer menus. |

Bigbazza (Barry) Oz I don't recall seeing either in KFC in the US, but then I wouldn't expect to see sweetbreads on any fast food menu here. Few restaurants of any type offer sweetbreads. I like them, but have never had them from lamb, only veal. Years ago I worked for a brief time for a very exclusive department store that had an employee's cafeteria without equal. They often had scrambled brains with eggs for breakfast, and they were delicious. This is also a dish that is rarely found in the US. -- Wayne Boatwright ------------------------------------------- Friday, 05(V)/09(IX)/08(MMVIII) ------------------------------------------- Countdown till Memorial Day 2wks 2dys 1hrs 45mins ------------------------------------------- How come the AT&T logo looks like the Death Star? ------------------------------------------- |

It had a large chain of stores in the 70's and was still around up to not many years ago in reduced numbers of stores..... It may have been 'bought up' by Kentucky though as they occupied the store immediately where we used to go down to from home.. Bigbazza (Barry) Oz |
