Speaking of Burger Chef, Hardee's (which bought Burger Chef many years ago) is now offering a Big Chef sandwich (again). Often, when I see the Hardee's commercials for 1/3 and 1/2 pound burgers, with super-sized fries, I think about when our town's first Burger Chef, around 1960; the burgers were 1/6 pound and the only size fries was about the same as today's kid's size - burger and fries each sold for 25 cents. We also had Steak 'n Shake, where there was no such thing as a "double", yet today that is pretty much advertised as the "standard" size burger. No wonder obesity is rampant, we've doubled the size of what we consider a portion. -- Change Cujo to Juno in email address. |

I have several of them! I didn't actually like their hot dogs, for the record! Best, Andy Slope Hot Dogger, in my prime! |

Stragely, CJr can make a very good burger n' shake. I used to pick up a Famous Star and s/b shake just before night classes at a CJr near where I worked and they were unbelievably good. Unfortunately, it's seems CJr is not big on consistency. The CJr where I lived was atrociously bad and I even wrote regional headquarter to complain. They didn't care and didn't bother to reply. King. Speaking of Burger Chef, Hardee's (which bought Burger Chef many years ago).... Yeah, almost 40! much advertised as the "standard" size burger. No wonder obesity is rampant, we've doubled the size of what we consider a portion. Doubled the bread. And what's a Supergulp in costs? About 3 cents worth of soda? The cup is the expense. We have only a handfull of scarf n' barfs, here. Subway, McD, BK, and TB. I don't eat at any of them, voluntarily. nb |

Must be common. There are two Hardee's in the town where I live, one had Red Burrito added six-months ago, the other has not. Perhaps they are converting all of them; the one that was converted happens to be just off an I-44 exit ramp, so maybe they are converting high-volume first. The Hardee's-only is located in a business district along a heavily travelled commuter corridor. Who knows why fast-food joints do what they do; I still can't fathom the idea of "the King" clown BK uses. -- Change Cujo to Juno in email address. |

Arby's here is my second to the LAST choice for fast food (when I HAVE to eat fast food) Hardee's is the worst. Naturally, Hardee's is the closest one within walking distance (no car). Get bicycle. Cheaper than a car and you travel 4-5 times faster than walking. I like Wendy's Asian salad. I do have a Subway and a Pita Pit within walking distance. I'm also *close to several good local places (some a little spendy) Especially good is Cafe Aladdin (two Palestinian brothers- Ahmed Younis and Younis Younis - I call him "Younis2". They have wonderful gyros for $5, real sheep's milk feta, *several kinds of olives, felafel, good hummus and baba ghanoush.) Could never eat there again after that. Never knew how many burgers were sold with the 'special' sauce. And to all and sundry who were there that night, Hardees was further known not as the 'Home of the Whopper' but 'Home of the Jerk Burger'.......not urban legend, folks. This one I was actually there on the periphery. -ginny GROSS!! |
