I am hoping they go for co-branding as some chains have done; two menus
within one location. One of our local Hardee's has now become Hardee's/Red
Burrito; Pizza Hut has a few co-branded stores around town (don't recall
off-hand what the other half is)

Hardee's!? I wasn't even aware they still existed. All the locales I
ever
knew closed DECADES ago, and they sucked then. Shades of Burger Chef.
I'm
still trying to figure out how JITB and Wendy's stay in business. Oh,
don't
forget Der Weinerschnitzle for reaallly bad food.

Hardee's and Carl's Jr. are owned by the same company; in some regions the
stores are Hardee's, in others they are Carl's Jr. Here in St. Louis,
where Hardee's is headquartered, they are probably more numerous than Burger
King. Speaking of Burger Chef, Hardee's (which bought Burger Chef many
years ago) is now offering a Big Chef sandwich (again). Often, when I see
the Hardee's commercials for 1/3 and 1/2 pound burgers, with super-sized
fries, I think about when our town's first Burger Chef, around 1960; the
burgers were 1/6 pound and the only size fries was about the same as today's
kid's size - burger and fries each sold for 25 cents. We also had Steak 'n
Shake, where there was no such thing as a "double", yet today that is pretty
much advertised as the "standard" size burger. No wonder obesity is
rampant, we've doubled the size of what we consider a portion.

nb,

Oh NO! My first introduction to "31-flavors" of hot dogs!

My car to this day wears the der weinersnitzel antenna topper hot dogger. I
have several of them!

I didn't actually like their hot dogs, for the record!

Couple thousand of 'em.

"At one point the chain expanded to over 4,000 locations in the United
States, but the chain's expansion has contracted to less than 2,000 in
recent years." - Wiki

"In 1997, the chain was acquired by CKE Restaurants, the parent company of
the Carl's Jr. fast-food restaurant chain. ... Over time, some Hardee's
restaurants were converted to serve higher-quality hamburgers and other
products available from Carl's Jr., and also took on the Carl's Jr. star
logo in the process." - ibid.

How gross is THAT?

That explains a lot. We have (had?..I'm no longer in CA) lottsa CJr's.
Stragely, CJr can make a very good burger n' shake. I used to pick up a
Famous Star and s/b shake just before night classes at a CJr near where I
worked and they were unbelievably good. Unfortunately, it's seems CJr is
not big on consistency. The CJr where I lived was atrociously bad and I
even wrote regional headquarter to complain. They didn't care and didn't
bother to reply.

King. Speaking of Burger Chef, Hardee's (which bought Burger Chef many

Yeah, almost 40!

Doubled the bread. And what's a Supergulp in costs? About 3 cents worth of
soda? The cup is the expense.

We have only a handfull of scarf n' barfs, here. Subway, McD, BK, and TB.
I don't eat at any of them, voluntarily.

In fact, when I just visited the Wiki article on Hardees, I noticed that
the only image they had of one of the locations was a combined H/RB joint.
Must be common.

And there's a strip of states out in the flyover zone between the Hardee's
states and the Carl's states where both exist.

There are two Hardee's in the town where I live, one had Red Burrito added
six-months ago, the other has not. Perhaps they are converting all of them;
the one that was converted happens to be just off an I-44 exit ramp, so
maybe they are converting high-volume first. The Hardee's-only is located
in a business district along a heavily travelled commuter corridor. Who
knows why fast-food joints do what they do; I still can't fathom the idea of
"the King" clown BK uses.

How sad. Arby's here is my second to the LAST choice for fast food
(when I HAVE to eat fast food)
Hardee's is the worst. Naturally, Hardee's is the closest one within
walking distance (no car).

Get bicycle. Cheaper than a car and you travel 4-5 times faster than
walking.

I like Wendy's Asian salad. I do have a Subway and a Pita Pit within
walking distance.

I'm also *close to several good local places (some a little spendy)
Especially good is Cafe Aladdin (two Palestinian brothers- Ahmed
Younis and Younis Younis - I call him "Younis2". They have wonderful
gyros for $5, real sheep's milk feta, *several kinds of olives,
felafel, good hummus and baba ghanoush.)
Lynn in Fargo
(two Thai restaurants, two Indian places, one really $$$ European
place run by an award winning chef from the Czech Republic, fifteen
Tex-Mex joints, annnd a hundred mediocre Chinese buffets.

Why bother with any fast food place with all this choice?

If faced with nothing but fast food, we opt for Wendy's mainly becaue
one can order a side salad instead of fries in one of their combo meals
without extra charge. It makes it just a tad healthier.
