The bitterness is the perfect counterpoint to bacon. |

Rum and raisins are another great one for ice cream. Olive oil and currants. Here, I'm speaking of Sun-Maid currants, and I don't know exactly what species they are. A little bit of good olive oil produces a profound transformation in the experience, they become more like berries. Weird. I haven't done that in a long time. I should. |

He would have been miserable in medieval England. Meat and fruit were really, really common. My partners, who belong to a medieval recreation society, are big fans of fruit and meat, but for some reason, I never think to cook them together because I didn't grow up with it. A couple of exceptions: my mom made ham with pineapple (I don't like ham) and pork chops with applesauce to dip them into (I liked those). Serene |

(No ham and pineapple or cherries or raisins; no chicken & mandarin oranges or lemon; no pork with apples or applesauce, etc.....) I dislike fruit with meat, also. The exception is lemon. The thought of, say, chicken with raspberry sauce does nothing for me. I pick that orange garnish some restaurants decorate the plate with as soon as the food arrives so it doesn't accidentally mess up my meat. Cider glaze with pork chops, okay, but you can hold the applesauce. nancy |

Bacon wrapped scallops? Bacon wrapped chicken breast strips. The fat from the bacon makes the chicken less dry, and the smoky flavor also enhances the chicken. I would grill these on skewers over the Weber. Before wrapping the chicken, I'd pan-fry the bacon to a very soft stage, so that the copious amount of fat released by raw bacon would not cause major flare-ups over the barbecue. |

I made a lemon chiffon cake once with chocolate icing, and it was a disgusting taste combo. N. Lemon cheesecake with a chocolate crumb crust works for me, but I doubt I'd combine them any other way |

That sounds interesting; do you soak the currants in the olive oil, or just drizzle the oil over them? |
