Boy, have you got THAT right!!

Oh, wait! There is no moderator.

What we're experiencing is the blessing and the curse of Usenet:
anyone can say anything without much fear of reprisal by anyone other
than being killfiled by the offended. The shame of that is that it
should be necessary to do that in order to cull the crap.

Ted, there's a moderated group for recipes only (no conversation),
rec.food.recipes. Lots of people find fault with it, but the very
first recipe I ever "got off the internet" came from r.f.r. Maybe
rec.food.recipes would be more satisfying to you.

Wasn't there a recent thread about so many of the recipes posted to rfr
being bad? Can't recall who started it but IIRC they'd tried a couple
(?) of the recipes and said they were awful. I recall some comments
about the large number of recipes that call for canned soup and boxed
mixes. But yes, it's moderated. There's really no give & take there.

Jill

I took part in that hailstorm! Complaining mostly about the typos and
ingredient quantity errors.

That's how we let off steam here at r.f.c. Take it out on r.f.r.

I nominate you as "moderator" of this "forum". Start zarking.

I'll second! :-)

Get moving, moderator. Get rid of the "shoes" posts.

God forbid a moderator could do away with shoes!!! You KNOW how often
shoestring potatoes discussions come up!!!

Andy
Still waiting for answers on the finer points of shoestring potatoes. What to
serve with them? Are they gourmet or comfort food? Are they for breakfast? Do
they freeze well?

Do like I did, Ted. Filter out @gmail and you'll eliminate a lot of

So, you're not reading me anymore? Oh, well.

I still see (most?) of your posts, sf. If I could afford some other
newsreader I'd get one. Does free Agent can do great filtering? And I seem
to recall reading there isn't a free version anymore, could be wrong.

Your first post here and all you can write is an off topic comment
to the non-existent moderator in an unmoderated newsgroup. Go back
to lurking.

This is far from his first post here. Ted Campanelli has posted to
rfc longer than you or anyone who's joined this thread so far except
me.

I knew I recognized his name; I was wondering how a regular would
think rfc was moderated...

Or that OT posts are a surprise!

Not a surprise, but that doesn't make it less annoying.

On the rare occasion that there's no OT flame wars going on, the
quality of the cooking threads improves from my observation.

One must eat the shoes along with the "Do Not Eat" packet inside the box
or one will die.

Michael

And ya gotta pay attention while cooking them or they'll taste like
leather.

There's a fine line between a good shoe... VBG

pays $65k a year. Interested?

One of my pet peeves is people who post:

Without bothering to check first.

Yahbut then they're not Grape Jelly Meatballs.

I'm gonna kinda follow this recipe but without the potato and added
toasted dried minced onions, mustard flour, minced garlic, Italian
seasoning and some liquid smoke...maybe some bbq sauce or ketchup as
well. Oh I'm using 1 lb beef and 1 lb pork for ground meat.

@@@@@ Now You're Cooking! Export Format

Grape Jelly Meatballs II

none

=== MEATBALLS ===
2 pounds lean ground beef
1/4 cup potato; peeled, grated
1 egg
1 small onion; grated
bread crumbs
Salt; to taste
Freshly-ground black pepper; to taste
=== SAUCE ===
1 bottle Heinz chili sauce - (13 oz)
1 jar grape jelly - (5 oz)
1 dash Worcestershire sauce

Combine first 4 ingredients in large bowl and mix well. Add enough
breadcrumbs to make meatballs the proper consistency; if the mixture
becomes too dry and crumbly, add a little milk and continue. Season with
salt and pepper. Form into small meatballs.
Brown meatballs, a few at a time, in a large skillet over medium-high
heat. If meat is very lean, you may need to add a bit of oil to your
skillet.
Blend sauce ingredients and pour over meatballs. Cover and simmer about
30 minutes, stirring occasionally or, transfer meatballs to a crockpot.
Add sauce, stir to coat, cover and cook on LOW for 6 to 10 hours.
This recipe yields about 100 meatballs.

There was. To each one's own, yeah? I don't get many from there but
the first one I ever took from the internet was from there.
