Sorry. I did not realize the groups were not moderated. I am just
getting tired wading through ads for Nike shoes, pocketbooks, sex pills,
etc. to find the food related items.

Understandable, but nothing can be done except to filter.

You need to killfile everything posted from Google. Show no
mercy to those Google-whiners. If somebody gets offended, spit
on them.

Really, you should teach seminars. ;-)

Sorry. I did not realize the groups were not moderated. I am

I never see those in here. Neither do many others. Use a feed
that's adequately filtered.

Even if your Google filter is turned off, you won't see them?
That's where they're all coming from.

I also mentioned filtering Gropers in another post to the thread, as
well as using a cleaner feed.

But in your response you implied that news.individual.net was
filtering the Google-Spam. I was trying to find out if your NSP was
filtering them, or your google filter was clearing them out.

Because I don't *see* the spam, I don't know where it's from. So you
pointed out that *this* spam is GG spam. So NOW I know that it needs to
be locally filtered (i.e. that it's my local filtering that's killing
these and not server filtering), and we're discussing THAT. When new
information presents itself, the discussion changes to accomodate it. I
don't see a problem with this.

It was what I thought was a simple question. With you being the
CEO of the Usenet Improvement Project, and the keeper of all
filters for Google, I would have thought you would have known for
sure whether your NSP or your client-side filters are filtering
it. I guess you really don't know.

Please read for comprehension. I'll repeat and type slowly for you.

Since I wasn't SEEING it, I couldn't tell which was filtering it.

Obviously you're on a different planet than I tonight.

I'm tired of talking to a brick. 'Bye.

Your first post here and all you can write is an off topic comment to the
non-existent moderator in an unmoderated newsgroup. Go back to lurking.

I don't think this is a lurker, I think this is one of those steve
kramer stalkers. I've seen "@grumpyoldmen" before.

Thanks for making my point. Filtering on gmail in the From header kills
most GG spam *and* many legitimate posters. Filtering on *actual GG
posts* by using the Message-ID header kills ALL GG spam and not the
legitimate gmail users like you.

Boy, have you got THAT right!!

Oh, wait! There is no moderator.

What we're experiencing is the blessing and the curse of Usenet: anyone
can say anything without much fear of reprisal by anyone other than
being killfiled by the offended. The shame of that is that it should be
necessary to do that in order to cull the crap.

Ted, there's a moderated group for recipes only (no conversation),
rec.food.recipes. Lots of people find fault with it, but the very first
recipe I ever "got off the internet" came from r.f.r. Maybe
rec.food.recipes would be more satisfying to you.

Nah, don't worry about it. Your only "error" was in not knowing that
THIS group is not moderated -- some are, most are not. Some (the
computer groups I read) are not moderated and stay on topic -- the idiots
and assholes are pretty much ignored and there's not much spam on them.
They just take care of the topical questions that come their way. I've
found them to be *very* helpful and cannot for the life of me understand
why some of the folks who regularly post here don't ask their computer
questions at the appropriate place.

If what you're using to read news has killfile capability, it's probably
worth your time to learn how to use it effectively - it will help cut
down on the crap a little bit.
