Just heard on the news today that if you microwave your broccoli it will
kill all the flavinoids which is about the only good thing in the vegetable! (That's the things that act as anti-oxidants to kill the free radicals in your system, or something like that!) Guess have to get the old steamer out and trash that nasty radiation emitting microwave.... I feel better and healthier already!!! |

Steamers are always better for veggies, IMO. Jill |

I thought the microwave was dangerous when an egg exploded. It took a while for my eyebrows to grow back. Becca Okay, 'splain that one to me, please You microwaved and egg, it explodedand your eyebrows got singed? How? It should have exploded while IN the microwave. And besides, an exploding egg would singe anything. Might burn a bit, but not singe. Jill |

Just cut up a couple heads of it. Mix 2tbls of chopped garlic, about 2tsp grated lemon rind and a couple tablespoons olive oil. Pour garlic/lemon/oil mix in pan and set on high heat for 2-3 minutes. Drop chopped broccoli in and toss. Add 1/2 cup water, cover and leave on high heat for 5 minutes. |

It takes little time to heat up a little water on the stove. |

microwave. It takes little time to heat up a little water on the stove. I agree with you for the most part. However, there are a few vegetables I do not want to boil. Acorn Squash - cut in half lengthwise, scoop out the seeds, place face down, cover, microwave for 8-10 minutes. Becca |

Becca I'll go you one better. Poke that acorn squash with a knife (make four cuts) along where you would normally cut it in half. Then stick it in the microwave for about 10 minutes. Take it out, cut it in half, then scoop out the seeds and pith. Careful, it's gonna be hot! (use an oven mitt). Then butter, season with salt & pepper and serve. Yep, this works. But broccoli? No. Jill |

Come now. I would say that a good ear of corn, still in its leaves, for
about 3 minutes on high is just delicious. As it comes out, rub it with a little butter, and you have an absolute treat (after you cool your hands which you just burnth with the escaping steam :-) |

It's a most excellent side dish to orange pork over rice... Sounds good. I like to chop some cabbage, put it in one of those microwave steamer thingies and cook for a couple of minutes so that cabbage is still crispy. Serve sprinkled with soy sauce or teriyaki sauce. -- Rhonda Anderson Penrith, NSW, Australia |
