I'm looking for a 40 inch range. Bought a new house and moving in a few weeks. The spot for the range is now occupied with a Frigidaire electric range that looks like it was made for the Jetsons. Came from the period when space age look was in. It slides the burners out and has a lot of baking and broiling space. But it is an antique. Gotto go. Will be using it in the garage or the outside porch for summer cooking. It is a looker. Maybe I sell it on Ebay for $5000.00? Nah That'd be too lucky. What I'm looking for is a modern STAINLESS steel 40 incher that will not kill my budget. I'd like to keep it under $2000.00 Any comments or experiences with this would be appreciated. I had looked at a couple - Frigidaire, and a few more but nothing that jumped out at me yet. Thanks ahead for inputs. (Also looking for a matching Stainless refrigerator for around $1000.00 or less. ) Robocheese Food is good. Eat. |

Does it have a main oven and broiler/auxilliary oven overhead with the glass windowed doors? That was a great range, but the broiler died on mine and I couldn't find anyone with replacement parts. The only two 40" units I found were a European-made unit that made me worry about getting parts, and a dual-fuel Kenmore Elite that I ended up buying. It was a bit over $2k, if I'm remembering correctly, and I'm not sure I would recommend it. It's nice, it's got 5 burners and two ovens, and it is stainless steel, but it's definitely a consumer product at heart. They put the burner controls on top instead of on the front, which is just dumb. And it's tough finding cookware pieces that'll fit in the narrow auxilliary oven. Thanks ahead for inputs. (Also looking for a matching Stainless refrigerator for around $1000.00 or less. ) We just got a GE side-by-side with ice and filtered water in the door for just about $1k. We like it so far. |

It is labeled Frigidaire deluxe something. But it sounds exactly like your's. Lots of glass and broiler area. Weird. The whole burner area slides in and out and hides away. It had to be a dream when it first came out. I look at it as a novelty. Although, they were telling me it worked great. It's going into the garage. The kitchen has been remodeled brand new, and they had taken the old cabinets and re-created the old kitchen in the garage on the side. Sink and all. So the range goes there. Weird, again. But cute. Plenty of room. Big garage. The only two 40" units I found were a European-made unit that made me worry about getting parts, and a dual-fuel Kenmore Elite that I ended up buying. Yes indeed. The one I had seen on Ebay had the knobs on top. Bad design in my opinion. I have not found one yet. But still looking. On the refrigerator, I'm also still looking. I don't like side by side or freezer on top. I'm 6' 4" tall so I don't want to bend over every time I open the fridge. The few times I need to get into the freezer, I'll bend over. But it makes no sense for the freezer to stare you in the face, and the food you need daily is at knee level. Boggles the mind. Robocheese Food is good. Eat. |

Oh, I has one of those in my youth, I loved it!!. It was a small kitchen so
I had room to move about when the burners where pushed in, tricky when they were out. I always kept the top oven for baking and the bottom for everyday cooking. The problem I have now with my single oven is that before baking bread it has to be cleaned or the grease splatters burn off and flavor the bread. As I never really seems to keep clean I have mostly stopped baking, pity. Doug. .. It is labeled Frigidaire deluxe something. But it sounds exactly like your's. Lots of glass and broiler area. Weird. As I never really seems to keep clean I have mostly stopped baking, pity. Doug. I gave up on the 40 inch ones to replace the Jetson's range. I might sell it. Or just keep it in the garage in the second kitchen. I've decided on the Maytag 30 inch from Sears. I'll just have to do something extra with the extra 10 inches. (Cough.) My wife says we have Home Depot custom make an extension to match the rest of the cabinetry. (Gulp.) Wonder what that'll cost. She insists though. So I'm screwed. It's gotto be good and we can't have gaps says she. I do see the point, it's just not AS important to me as it is to her. And to think that I do most the cooking. Oh well. She's awesome. She's worth it ![]() The good news is that what I save on getting a 30 incher, will cover the cost of the cabinet. I think. I hope. The Maytag has a 16000 BTU burner. A dream come true. I had never had enough power to cook right. Especially Wok cooking and other things needing high heat. I'm still scared about the cabinet piece they'd have to match. Yikes. Robocheese Food is good.
