Default Soy Milk causing men to grow breasts

I am an 57 year old man. Recently I was told that men should not
drink soy milk because there is some sort of estrogen or something
like that in it which will cause men to grow breasts. I'm lactose
intolerant and cant drink regular cow milk. I missed the milk, and my
doctor said I was extremely low on calcium too, so I tried soy milk
and really liked it quite a lot. I had expected a bland tasteless
drink but was surprised how good the soy milk was. I have had quite a
few gallons of it over the last few years and never had any problems.
However now that I heard this thing about breasts I tend to wonder if
this could be true. Actually I thought it was a joke until I read the
container and it says "phytoesrogens help releive menopausal
symptoms". That does sound like there may be some truth to this. I
have not had any since I read that. What's the truth here?

Why don't you just take a balanced mineral supplement that contains
Calcium? There are several on the market. I personally use "Now" brand
full spectrum minerals. Take them with meals.

I never drink any milk any more and only eat a small amount of dairy
products (cheese, yogurt and cottage cheese) when I am in the mood for
them.

If you do some googling, you will find the opinions on the effects of
phytoestrogens in Soy to be a hotly debated topic.

I think the jury is still out on that one.

Roy,

There's nothing to worry about. I've been drinking soy milk
for over 10 years. My bra size has not increased at all. :^)

My male cousin did not drink soy milk, he died of breast cancer in 2004.
He had had slightly breasts which soy products must not have caused.

I (female) had breast cancer and I did use a lot of soy products.

There are so many products to use, chose another.

Funny.

I've not consumed milk in years. Neither has dad.
I don't get why anyone not in the growth years would even want it.

But, that's just us.

We do consume some fermented dairy products, but not daily.
There are plenty of other calcium sources.

Cheese is a whole 'nuther subject being an art form and all. G

Cause cereal with water is GROSS. ;^) And cause I like my iced coffee
lightened. Mashed potatoes, cakes and icings on rare occasions, that sort
of thing. For me, anyway.

True dat! OJ or beer is even worse. Fortunately, I finally broke my
near life-long addiction to cold cereal. Cap'n Crunch free for 3 yrs.
Woo-hoo!

Thank goodness they still sell those little cartons of milk. Kinda
pricey, but better than dumping .92 gals of sour milk.

I've never cared for milk, but since we are now buying a gallon a week, I
have compiled my own list for using it up. All things I really like and are
extremely hard on your arteries: bechamel, (paneer) cheese, cream of
potato/leek/sorrel, etc. soup, ice cream, rice puddings, ganache, macaroni
& cheese, hot cocoa, butter....

My blood sugar is OK, but my cholesterol is high so I have cut down on using
the cream -

All this I hope controls my osteo-penia (not osteo-porosis).

The irony of the whole thing (ha, I said iron and I have too much of that
in
my system as well), is what 40 year old woman's blood actually contains
too
much calcium? I was told I needed to lower my intake. Yeah, okay!

As with hypercalcemia, too much iron in your blood can be dangerous. Google
hemochromatosis.

We don't eat cold cereal.
Hot cereal is better with cream or butter.
Not _quite_ the same as milk gallons.

And cause I like my iced coffee
lightened.

Tea. With a smidge of heavy cream.

No milk.

Mashed potatoes,

Cream. Butter. Cheese.

cakes and icings on rare occasions, that sort
of thing. For me, anyway.

But see, all of the above does not involve drinking GALLONS of milk.
You are using it as a recipe ingredient. Even with the cereal.

Not the same thing as using it as a beverage. :-)

shrugs

Cap'n crunch is best as a dry crunchy snack!
Who needs milk with cold cereal?

(altho' I confess I've not eaten it for at least 10 years either. G)
