Default Baking Fish

Hi All,
I got a 3 lb. bag of frozen flounder at giant eagle,
I thought I'd bake it (about 1/2 of the bag),but it was frozen,
So I used the defrost cycle of my microwave to defrost it, and baked it in a
glass covered baking dish at 350, with about a half stick of butter, and
checked it after 15 minuets.
It had pretty well turned to mush. one piece worse than the others.

Where did I go wrong?

Should I have let it defrost 24 hours in the refrigerator like it said on
the package?
Then if that's what I need to do, how long should I bake it for, and at what
temperature?

That, and I wouldn't thaw it in the microwave. Throw the portions desired
in a zip-lock bag and place the bag in a sink full of cold water. They'll
thaw in no time. I'm also curious, just butter? No seasonings, herbs,
nothing else? If that's the case the fish probably would have been pretty
crappy even if it hadn't turned to mush.

The covering. I probably would have placed them on a cookie sheet and
topped each with a bit of butter and herbs. I don't do flouder fillets
often, though.
