It's a taste condom. New Zealand requires that all McDs provide taste
condoms with each order. By slipping the condom on the tongue, one is
partially protected from bad taste. It's part of a Safer Eating program.

huge eyeroll I don't see what the big deal is. The kid is 7 and hasn't
a clue what a condom is. Apparently the sports bag was mistakenly handed
out and the condom, in it's package, was there beforehand. It was human
error, a mistake. Gawd, can you imagine if that happened here in the US?
There would be lawsuits with TV interviews and indignant statements from
the religious right.

Exactly. I didn't see what the big deal was about with the whole "hot
coffee in the lap" thing either

lap

I don't see anything wrong. However, if it was used, that would be a
different story.

As everyone knows one fills them with water and drops them on adults
( preferably from the 2nd floor to have time to make an escape. )

god damn it, i am tired of this being referred to as some kind of
'frivolous' lawsuit. the woman had ****ing third degree burns over
six percent of her body and needed skin grafts. the corporation had
had over 700 similar complaints.

the cheap *******s refused to pay any of her medical expenses, which
would have more than satisfied her.

"The jury awarded Liebeck $200,000 in compensatory damages. This
amount was reduced to $160,000 because the jury found Liebeck 20
percent at fault in the spill. The jury also awarded Liebeck $2.7
million in punitive damages, which equals about two days of McDonalds'
coffee sales."

http://www.lectlaw.com/files/cur78.htm

so spare me sympathy for poor put-upon mcdougals. this is a
right-wing meme designed to generate sympathy for 'tort reform' so
that corporations won't be inconvenienced by suits when they maim
their customers. stop spreading their bullshit for them.

your pal,
blake

When I first saw the subject header, I figured it was a troll, because
such posts are common on alt.food.fast-food. The next thing I thought
was, I hope it was in the big kids' meal, not the Happy Meal.
I like the idea, since it would infuriate the anti-sex, abstinence-
only, fundamentalist Neanderthals.

snip rest of story for space

So I take it you also think HOT coffee should not burn when one drops it in
the lap. Whatever. I don't give a flying fig about McDonald's either.

Michael

this was not a woman complaining because she had an 'owie' from hot
coffee. it destroyed her skin, and she wasn't the first.

suppose she had carefully opened the coffee and took a big gulp. yum!
she's loving it!

Any hot coffee, even not as hot as hers was, could also burn if spilled
and held against the skin by the clothing.
I find her somewhat at fault for putting a cup of known hot coffee
between her legs. It just seems to be asking for trouble.

and the jury found her to be twenty percent at fault. the fact
remains that the coffee was too hot to be handled safely.

blake
