You said "not all food products", which limited my response to that
comment. Now you want to widen it again?

Widen what??

I've got about 45 minutes of spare time left - so if you really want to
continue this "discussion"... go for it.

p.s. I am a slow reader, so make it "short and sweet"

No way. Tires these days are far superior to the ones of years past.
It's not unusual to meet younger people who have never changed a flat,
because they never had one.

Sure they've never changed a flat, when your SUV rolls because
a tire peels and you die, you fail to gain any flat-changing
experience.

Welcome to the age of electronics. Televisions are cheaper now than they
were years ago. That is not just factored for inflation. They are cheaper.
Computers are much better than they used to be, and a fraction of the
cost. Music CDs are cheaper now. Tires are cheaper per mile driven then
used to me. Salmon and shrimp are affordable now. Soft drinks are
relatively cheap now compared to years ago.

Ahem. Silly me, I was thinking about *food* - not other products - as I
assumed that's what we were discussing.

The Spare bedroom said to widen my thinking ot all products. A lot of
things are relatively cheaper and some things are actually priced lower.

And as for salmon and shrimp - never seen their prices go down in the
20-odd years that I have been buying them. Soft drinks (which is sorta
food-related) haven't got cheaper here either. Maybe I should move to
the USA?

Don't do it :-) I don't live in the US. Soft drinks aren't exactly
cheaper, but when adjusted for inflation is relatively cheap. When I was a
kit a large bottle 25 oz bottle of pop was 29 cents. Now I can get a
litter for $1-1.30. I live a long way from the ocean. Shrimp used to be
unaffordable. Now is is very affordable.

Actually, it is made in Niagara Falls Ontario.

Oy! Fine, but that's not China.

Slave labor

Seems like it.

Music CDs are cheaper now.

Lousier music

That is a matter of taste. Contemprary music is pretty lame, but pop music
went down the tubes in the 70s. The music of the 80s and 90s sucked and the
2000s have not been stellar. There is a reason that there are so many
stations playing the hits of these 60s and 70s. Never the less, CDs are
cheaper now, even for the good stuff.

Tires are cheaper per mile driven then
used to me.

More likely to peel

Treads peeling off is usually the result of excess heat, which in turn is
because of low air pressure. Tires last so long now that they lose air over
time. People do not check their air pressure as often as they used to
because they don't feel the need. Think back to the 50s and 60s when tires
were guaranteed for only 5,000 miles, and flat tires were a regular
occurrence. Tires now get at least five times as much life out of them as
they used to.

Salmon and shrimp are affordable now.

Farmed

Yes.... but still cheaper, right?

Soft drinks are
relatively cheap now compared to years ago.

High-fructose corn syrup

That is just a matter of squeezing more money out of consumers. They use a
lot of sugar. The savings per can is a fraction of a penny, but it adds up
when they sell a billion cans
