I have seen everything now. Wegman's has Tofurkey brand tofu kielbasa. Is
nothing sacred?

Agree, but the trend to make meat products that only have the general
shape of what they are supposed to be probably started a long time ago
with Hillshire and their "kielbasa like" products.

To some only the Almighty Buck is sacared....This trend of soya this and
tofu that is very disheartening. I eat tofu as tofu and have enjoyed
various other soy bean products... but the company's pushing this stuff is
like a mother disguising or hiding a hated veggie from a child so the kid
will eat it.

Agree, I like tofu as is but the concept of mixing it up with
mechanically separated meat parts and "flavors" and then calling it
"kielbasa" or whatever they are trying to imitate is wrong.

Hi, all....please tell me that this is an April Fool's thread?

First, there are no "mechanically separated meat parts" in tofurkey.
Very few people, I hope, would purchase tofurkey kielbasa thinking
that it was made from animal products.

As far as I can tell, there is no evil plot to sneak tofu into the
"real" food supply.

Is it so terrible that there are now some more varied options out
there for people who, for whatever reason, do not eat meat?

In a group where it's acceptable, by group standards, to discuss
eating a baby pig's head, and where the one person to question this
practice is reprimanded for his/her "prejudice" against foods they
choose not to eat...I would hope that the same tolerance could be
extended to....uh....tofu? Really, it's pretty harmless. :O)

Nice to meet you all. I had hoped that, whenever I de-lurked, it
would be to agree rather than the opposite....

I enjoy r.f.c. a lot, actually. :O)

It's not the options we object to. It's the people.
People who become vegetarians (except for religious
reasons) are invariably doing so to reinforce their
"superior" attitude toward meat-eaters and people
who drive SUVs. They make unfair generalizations
about us, such as calling us "planet-destroying
baby killers". Naturally, we resent this, so when
you wander into one of our hangouts, you should expect
to be treated roughly. Hope this helps! :-)

"In the whole history of the world, whenever a meat-eating race has gone to
war against a non-meat-eating race, the meat eaters won. It produces
superior people. We have the books of history."

That would explain why the British still rule India, I guess.....

Wow. Impressive.

What I actually said focused on two pretty simple points:

1. Tofurkey doesn't contain meat parts.

2. Since most tofu or tofurkey products are labeled, you can avoid
tofu if you want to. Probably, no one is trying to sneak tofu into
your food against your will.

I didn't express, nor do I agree with, any of the judgmental attitudes
you attributed to vegetarians. So....one of us, in fact, did make
sweeping and unfair generalizations....but it wasn't me.

I did enjoy your post, though. I haven't been warned away from
somebody's "hangout" so eloquently since I was six.

HTH :O)

For some odd reason there are a few folks in here that seem to spend
inordinate amounts of time putting down people who choose a diet that
is different from what they deem as "the right diet." I don't and I
guess I never will understand why some people seem to be so vested in
how others eat. There are hundreds of threads posted in this group
that I don't participate in simply because they aren't topics that I'm
interested in. Instead of popping into a thread on DUCK SOUP, which
I'd never eat, and start saying how gross duck soup sounds or telling
everyone that no one should eat duck, I just friggin leave the thread
alone. However, mention tofu sausage and it gets jumped on like we
mentioned that we're eating sausage that is toxic or should be
illegal. Again....why does it bother anyone? Do you take it
personally?

>From what I'm gathering, there are a few in this group and scattered

about the universe, who have come into contact with preaching
veggies. It has been my experience that there are preachers of all
types. Reformed drinkers, smokers, overweight folks, etc. There are
assholes in all professions from barmaid to surgeon and everywhere in
between. What would be nice, but I suppose is a bit of a dream, is
for people to be more accepting of how others eat, and less eager to
label and stereotype people's food choices. Eat your meat and shut
up. Eat your veggies and shut up.

For the millionth time, I don't care who eats what, why do others????
Now you know at least one veggie who doesn't preach so not all veggies
are preachers. I just come to this group to get some ideas on foods
for my family and for people that I entertain. I'm not here to reform
anyone nor tell you that what you eat is wrong. And I come here for
the entertainment too :-)

'cause they're assholes?

Just a thought.

I don't. I do find it odd that people will buy tofu and
textured vegetable protein that has been made to look and taste
like meat. I mean, that makes as much sense as those juice
drinks we were discussing a few days ago. If you want to drink
juice, buy real juice. If you want to eat meat, buy real meat.

I can sort of understand it for some religious folks who are
not permitted to eat meat, but you have to wonder if they aren't
missing the point of their own religious rules and anyway, that's
not the majority of the Tofurkey market, I'm guessing.

So, does Tofurkey kielbasa qualify as "all natural?" >

Well said Brian. If only some people would just mind their platters
and not worry so much what others are ingesting.
