So, were you bragging or complaining?

Happy to clue you in.

I don't have that genetic trait, absolutely LOVE cilantro
and think it adds a great flavor to dishes that call for it.
However, if you don't like cilantro, you can leave it out!
Whadda concept!

I didn't ask you to make salsa for me, nor was my post in reply to

If you had worded your snide comment as prefering to make
your own salsa without cilantro because it imparts an off
flavor TO YOU ("I make salsa without cilantro because..."),
I wouldn't have commented. But you worded it in a way that
expects others to cater to you.

NO WAY, Jose.

Oh, I get it... you were telling Lea, someone you don't know
and will never know, not to make salsa with cilantro for you
because you have some weird genetic flaw.

What boat did you just fall off, or was that a wagon?

Kindly keep your gratuitous
rudeness to yourself.

I decline. You got a taste of your own medicine... or maybe
it's soap.

News Flash. The Earth does NOT revolve around you!

Eat as a guest in someone's home and you'd better quietly
eat their food (made to their taste - not yours). If they
*ever* eat at your house, you'll get to serve them food made
to your taste.

Good god people!
Quit being so damned childish and get the thread back on track!
This crap is downright rude to the OP.

Ok, so some people don't like Cilantro. So what? I'm glad to know that
I am not alone. ;-) I don't like raw onions either. They give me gas.
Love them sauteed tho'.

But I have co-workers (hispanic) that cannot live without Cilantro,
and I DO buy it for my parrots! Evidently Freya's tastes are better
than mine. G She is a Goffin's cockatoo. Freya also loves raw bell
peppers, yet another veggie I can't stand.

I also hate Arugala (rocket lettuce). My dearly departed mom however
adored it so we did grow it.

Basil, fresh thyme, rosemary, Parsley and other fresh herbs may be
added as taste allows.

Be nice children! ;-D

OK, I went back and Googled this thread for a second time and I can
see how someone could interpret my statement that way so to be clear
I'll state that it was not my intention to tell Lea how to make her
salsa. Lea, if *you* interpreted it that way you have my apologies.
I would never tell a hostess to how make her food unless they asked my
opinion. What I was trying to express was agreement with Nancy that
cilantro tastes like soap to me as well - nothing more.

As for you, SF, bugger off.

Don't be so conceited to think that posts not directly addressed to

My parents taught me reasonably well how to act as a guest in another
persons home, so I need no instruction from you. I was not speaking
to you, nor were you quoted in any of the text that I quoted in my
original post - yet you chose to interject yourself. Fine, this is
Usenet and you can do that. I'm sure if Lea had been offended by
anything I said she'd have informed me and if she was I've already
apologized for in inadvertent offense I may have given. When I choose
to offend someone there is no doubt as to my intent.

I've heard the "tastes like soap" comment before, but having not
tasted soap since one memorable "bad word" incident *many* years ago,
I find that component difficult to identify. :-) I first (knowingly)
tasted cilantro not too many years ago in a Thai dish. It tasted
*peculiar* to me. Funny. Unfamiliar. As it happens, I kept ordering
the dish, and became a cilantro fan, for Thai, Indian, and Mexican
things. I suppose many tastes we don't grow up with seem odd or
wrong. And even some we do. And everyone should be granted the right
to simply dislike a few things for any reason or no reason at all.

Taste is highly individualistic. We all like things that other people
cannot abide. I do not dislike cilantro so much that I simply won't
eat anything that has any trace of it, but beyond a certain level the
flavor is very off putting to me. Some restaurants put a lot in their
salsa, others don't. I like Thai, some Indian, and Mexican food right
well, but then they don't necessarily put large amounts of cilantro in
everything in their cuisine either. Having eaten cilantro in whatever
since I was a small child I reckon I've long-since achieved sufficient
data to decide it's never going to be a preferred seasoning for me.
Rather like celery, in small amounts it's tolerable, in large amounts
I'll eat something else.

This whole thing has gotten way, way out of hand so this is going to
be my last controversial post about cilantro. It's too silly to argue
about.

That was my point dear. ;-) Thank you for clarifying it.

Now, can we PLEASE help the OP with more ideas for lettuce wraps?
Or I suppose we could refer her to the "sandwich" thread that ran a
few weeks ago, except I can't find the thread in a search as I can't
remember exactly what it was called!

Anything that goes well in a sandwich goes well in a lettuce wrap. :-)
