My mother used to make "New England Boiled Dinner", only she used
beef short ribs rather than the traditional beef brisket. I haven't had this for at least 20 years, so I was pleased to find some great looking chuck short ribs at my local Fred Meyer on Monday. The "sell by" date on the package was October 10th, so I figured they'd be just fine for tonight's dinner. Wrong!! I took them out of the meat drawer this afternoon, and they're green and stinky! And no, there is nothing wrong with my refrigerator. Heck with it, we're going out for a burger before taking Small Child to swimming class... -- j*ni p. ~ mom, gamer, novice cook ~ ...fish heads, fish heads, eat them up, yum! |

Better luck next time = ) |

Maybe there is a dyslexic person in the meat department and the label should have read "Oct. 01" instead of "Oct. 10." ![]() |

I'd also be taking the green stinky meat back to Fred Meyer! We did, and am I ever glad! I happened to run into my best friend from K-12 in the parking lot; turned out she's moved back into town, but since I'm unlisted, she couldn't find my number. Now we've got each others info and plans to get together. So I guess I shouldn't be quite to ****ed at Fred Meyer... ;-) -- j*ni p. ~ mom, gamer, novice cook ~ ...fish heads, fish heads, eat them up, yum! |

Take them back to the market where you bought them. Most reputable
groceries will refund your money. Not that that does any good for tonight's dinner, of course. ![]() -- Sylvia Steiger RN, homeschooling mom since Nov 1995 http://www.SteigerFamily.com Cheyenne WY, USDA zone 5a, Sunset zone 1a Home of the Wyoming Wind Festival, January 1-December 31 Remove "removethis" from address to reply |

Hark! I heard "Gregory Morrow" say:
j*ni p. wrote: My mother used to make "New England Boiled Dinner", OT yer problem, but this was Katherine Hepburn's favorite dish.... I didn't know that -- as a kid, I thought it was something Mom had invented herself... :-) -- j*ni p. ~ mom, gamer, novice cook ~ ...fish heads, fish heads, eat them up, yum! |
