They stayed in their house. Lots of people who part do so on amicable terms. I would welcome any of my exes into my home any time, and so would my partners. I still see James's ex-girlfriend on a semi-regular basis. We were friends before they got together, so I don't see any reason to stop being friends just because they're not seeing each other any more.
