It was interesting to watch the guy peeling the carrot and raving
about how easy it was, and all the time wondering why it was
taking him so long. I have a simple little Henckle peeler, under
$5 at the local hardware store, and could have done two or three
carrots in the time it took him to do one.

I agree. Any cheapo swivel peeler should be able to peel a
huge carrot in 4 or 5 seconds. Slide it back and forth
instead of just going in one direction as though it were a
paring knife. Peel with both cutter blades. Carrot peels
flying...

So I used to think. Having grown up using cheapo Wearever and the
like peelers, I didn't think it could be too bad. Wrong. This past
week while peeling potatoes at my daughter's, I was exposed to a
peeler so dreadfully cheap, so incredibly ineffective, as to be
totally and completely useless. I ended up peeling with a paring
knife. I'll be buying my daughter a good peeler for Xmas.

Could it have just been dull? I love my el cheapo peelers. I
accidently throw them away on a regular basis so they have to be cheap.

The page says that the double peeler costs £2.99 but when you click to
Betterware it is reduced to £1.99!

Can you get a standard peeler for less?

Perhaps, perhaps not.

But why would something promoted as being so wonderful be
cheaper than a standard peeler? It sold really well, so they
cut the price...?

After checking with the RFC Statistics Committee, I've been
directed to correct my obviously erroneous assertion. It's
not "any cheapo swivel peeler," it's 83% of all cheapo
swivel peelers. I stand corrected.

I'm telling.
