Default Freezing cheese??

I was just given a 5lb block of American cheese. I don`t think I can use
it all up before it goes bad. (I live alone and really don`t do much
cooking anymore). Can I freeze some of this cheese? How long can I
expect the refrigerator shelf life of it to be?

I have frozen it and it dried out and became icky. But lots of people do

Cheese can certainly be frozen but the texture will suffer. If it wasn't
already crumbly it will become so. Make sure it's wrapped well.

Cheese is best shredded or cubed before freezing, then used for
cooking.

You can freeze hard cheeses, but not soft ones.

Vacuum sealers are great for that sort of thing. It can last more six
months in the fridge like that.

I have frozen American cheese and if well wrapped does not dry but sometimes
is loses the texture.
