Oh pshaw, on Thu 09 Nov 2006 02:58:41p, Andy meant to say...

SO they're just TV stage sets but "if they were real"...

Michael Lomonoco's "Epicurious" kitchen on the Travel channel!

There's SO MUCH room between the back of the kitchen and the cooking

table
he works from, you could honestly entertain in the kitchen. Waltz even!!!

My next house will just have a kitchen and a bedroom surrounded by decks
with hottub and bbq and hammocks.

Well, I don't get the FoodTV channel, and I suppose I really don't pay much
attention to those stage kitchens I do see.

We are moving into our new house in less than a month and it has a very
workable kitchen, if not a "dream" kitchen.

The kitchen itself has permimeter counters and cabinets along 2 walls which
also incorporate the range and refrigerator. There is a 7' x 3' island
with sink and dishwasher that separates the cooking area from an eating
area. The eating area separates the kitchen from the den. I think we'll
like it.

Wayne,

Is this kitchen in your new home of your own design? Can you entertain
guests in it?

No, it was a standard plan, but does seem workable, practical, and well
lit. Yes, because of the island and the adjacent eating area, it should be
easy to have guests in the area.

Look forward to photos!

I plan to do that after we've moved in and put some things in their proper
places. :-)

Getting anxious???

Yes, it's been a long wait!

I strongly recommend adding a bathroom to your plan.

Damsel,

Very funny!

That's naturally part of the master bedroom.

As it is, I've got a bathroom to beat the band that the original owner
put in. It's a two showerhead (hi, low), two-jet directional jacuzzi, and
steambath "phonebooth!". Operated by external timers and temperature
controls. It's friggin' awesome (hillarious to most guests). The sliding
glass door is 4 feet from the floor of the bathroom (for when using the
jacuzzi). You literally have to climb into it! Sit or stand. Drying off
under heat lamps cuts way down on towels. It's a gem of a bathroom.

I like the Barefoot Contessa's - seems very "real". As a matter of
fact, I think it IS filmed at her house. Anyone else know?

You will absolutely LOVE it. It sounds like my kitchen, except twice
as big.

Mine is: kitchen with counters/cupboards all around, then an island
(mine is only 18" x 30"), then a small eating area (where the wood
stove lives), then the family room which is where we basically live.

I have never had a kitchen island before - always had little galley
kitchens. But now I can see the TV from the kitchen island while I'm
doing vegetables etc. I love that more than I can describe.

I wish the island was bigger, but it just would not fit.

My favorite was the Frugal Gourmet's kitchen. I was spacious and well
laid out with what seemed like miles of counter space, and I always
wanted a kitchen just like it. Very work-friendly space, that!

and the best part was that there was never, ever, any pretense that it
was anybody's real-life kitchen, a pretension that is probably the thing
I dislike the most about cooking shows nowadays

Yes, it is her house, and I agree with you, that's a nice kitchen.
Paula's show is now filmed in her new house, too.

I like Rachael Ray's TV kitchen, I particularly love the range/oven
she uses on 30-Minute Meals.

The best jokes are based on what is actually there.
