I am from PA, understand the election was mostly an anti-Bush referendum but I think it was a real mistake to elect the "I've never had a real job and never performed/worked at all of the political offices I have held and don't forget my father was governor guy.." Yepper. Bob Casey has been in and out of political office but still, Santorum was pathetic. AND Kurt Weldon, what with him being investigated by the FBI for abuse of power (getting his kid business by lobbying an Italian arms dealer). And after 10 terms, he just deserved to be replaced. I also gave Swann my vote for governor just because Rendell is such a cheesy democrat. He belongs in Kalifornia, imho. Andy |

That's Robert Gates, the former CIA chief, who will be Secretary of Defense instead of Rumsfeld. I was kind of hoping he'd nominate Joe Lieberman as Secretary of Defense. 1) Imagine the reaction in the Middle East. ;-) 2) It would upset the balance of power in the Senate. Best regards, Bob |

I'll drink to that. )W was for him before he was against him W is holding a press conference as we speak and he just stated he's not getting rid of Rumsfeld or Chaney. According to CNN.com, Rumsfeld has stepped down: "Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, architect of an unpopular war in Iraq, is stepping down as Secretary of Defense, President Bush announced today. Bush said he is nominating Robert Gates, former head of the CIA, to replace Rumsfeld." http://www.cnn.com/ Asking Rumsfeld to step down is Bush's concession to the newly-formed Democratic House and possibly Senate. This is Bush's show of cooperation for the benefit of Pelosi, who has already received the requisite "let's all get along" phone call. N. |

One day he is at a photo op beside the Shrub who is telling him he is doing a heck of a job and two days later he gets the boot. |

That's because sane few intelligent people would express that opinion. Minimum wage affects the most disenfranchised workers, usually working for the worst types of employers. From what I understand the US federal minimum has not been raised for more than 10 years. The Senate rejected an increase, but since that time they have given themselves a dozen raises amounting to $28,000 per year. I am sure that there is a perfectly good explanation for giving themselves raises that total almost three times the annual salary of a minimum wage worker. |

LOL There was a joke going around here years ago when our former Prime Minster Pierre Trudeau was going through marital problems with his wife Margaret. A few months after their separation she called him at home late on at night. Margaret " Hi Pierre, guess where I am" Pierre " I don't know Margaret, and I don't care" Margaret " I'm at a cocktail party at the American Embassy" Pierre "That's nice Margaret. We used to go there often" Margaret "Guess who I met" Pierre " I don't know Margaret and I don't care" Margaret "He is a famous politician" Pierre " I don't care Margaret. I have met lots of American politicians" Margaret " But we have been having a very intimate conversation" Pierre "That's nice Margaret but I don't care" Margaret "It's Ted Kennedy" Pierre " Ask him for a ride home" |
