I got a free sample razor in the mail yesterday (unsolicited) and this
morning I got a baby-bottom-smooth shave for the first time in awhile, no
razor burn, etc. Never used a pivot, 5-blade, lotion striped razor before.
For it's trial run, I liked it. The cost of the replacement cartridges
sounds like a ripoff.

You?

Andy

P.S. I looked for shave and razor on usenet but it revealed a little more
than I was looking for. --A

Remember the old SNL commercial parody about the triple bladed
razor and their slogan "Track III. If you believed Two you'll
believe anything." Five may be a hard sell.

I was impressed enough with the Sensor I had sent to me in the
mail that I paid the big bucks for the triple blade cartridges. I
got a much smoother shave, could use new blades without spilling
blood, and they lasted twice as long. However, I still cringe
when I have to buy a package of blades.

Razor blades have come a long way over the years, but it is still
hard to spend closet o $15 for a package of 5 blades when you
remember that packages of 10 used to cost 49 cents.
BTW.... how did they ever get away with calling those things
"safety razors"?

It was a relative thing. Did you ever try shaving with a straight razor?

I haven't received one yet. when my old Norelco rotary razor died a few
weeks ago, I bought a Braun foil razor. I like the cordlessness of it,
but it takes a lot longer to get a decent shave as the Norelco, and it
doesn't cut as close. It's good enough for everyday though.

I've been looking at old-style safety razors on eBay that take
double-edge blades for when I want a close shave. (I wish I could find
my old Gillette. It's with my shaving brush and
shaving-cream-that-comes-in-a-tube-like-toothpaste somewhere.) The
twin-blade disposables /almost/ make sense; anything more than 2 is just
stupid hype. I refuse to buy anything like the Fusion or anything that
says "Turbo Titaniumâ„¢" (etc.) but I'll try one if they send it to me for
free.

Curmudgeonly,
Bob

Dave,

I remember a bathroom shaving scene in the parody film "Airplane II" (??)
while they were headed for the sun and the guy had nick'd tissue patches
all over his face.

I was impressed enough with the Sensor I had sent to me in the
mail that I paid the big bucks for the triple blade cartridges. I

I've used the Gillette "goodnews" cheap-o razors for ever with temporary
stretches of braun and norelco electrics (crap).

"safety razors"?

I remember it was how you could slide a double-edged razor out of the
case with your thumb (through the open center thumb slot) into the razor,
making it impossible to cut your fingers in the process. Or close to it.

Pop bought us our own double edged razor blades and we'd shave with Pop
(sans blades). WE always got the closer shaves.

All the best,

Andy

Ever use an old-fashioned razor? :-) I practically cut a thumb off
with my grandfather's without hardly trying...

I usually shave with a 3-head Norelco which is cordless. Occasionally I
shave in the shower and use a 3-blade disposable. Can't even remember the
brand, but it gives a good shave. The steamy shower also helps.

Can I ask you guys about electric razors? With holidays coming up...
Are any of them worth buying?

I have used electric razors most of my life and bought various brands. My
favorite has been a 3-head Norelco cordless.

In order to get a decent shave from an electric razor, you need to get skin
oils off, which usually means washing your face. If you're gonna get wet
anyway, you may as well continue with shaving cream and a blade. I guess
there are models that can be used on wet skin, but I've never tried them. I
just don't see the point, other than maybe keeping one around for a quick
touch-up.

I gave up in electric razors long ago. I never found one that
gave a good shave, or one that gave any kind of shave at all
without leaving you face feeling like it had been through a sand
storm. Maybe they are better now than they used to be, but it is
just about the last thing I would want for Christmas.

Agreed. He'd probably rather have something like this:

Or this:

Or most anything from he

And maybe this:

Electric razor. Sheesh! Get serious!

I haven't use a blade type razor in decades. On the odd occasion I
bother to shave, around once every week or two I use a "linear" type
electric shaver. The joys of working from home and having no life. The
short furry wife doesn't care if I shave or not as long as I pet her.
