Can I ask you guys about electric razors? With holidays coming up...
Are any of them worth buying?

I gave up in electric razors long ago. I never found one that
gave a good shave, or one that gave any kind of shave at all
without leaving you face feeling like it had been through a sand
storm. Maybe they are better now than they used to be, but it is
just about the last thing I would want for Christmas.

The current "linear" type work reasonably well. They are also waterproof
so you can use them in the shower if you wish.

For it's trial run, I liked it. The cost of the replacement cartridges

I haven't use a blade type razor in decades. On the odd occasion I
bother to shave, around once every week or two I use a "linear" type
electric shaver. The joys of working from home and having no life. The
short furry wife doesn't care if I shave or not as long as I pet her.

I still use my old Mach3, did get a Quattro sample through in the post,
but I haven't tried it yet.

twin-blade disposables /almost/ make sense; anything more than 2 is just

free.

With the price of razor blades these days it seems like they are
using the computer printer model of marketing, sell the printer
cheap and then make your money on the cartridges. I have to
confess that I look at the new razors a lot. Sometimes they come
with three blades, and the prize of the new razor with blades is
cheaper than the replacement blades.

That is a fashion statement from the days of the double sided
"safety razor" that I remember only too well.

I was impressed enough with the Sensor I had sent to me in the
mail that I paid the big bucks for the triple blade cartridges. I
got a much smoother shave, could use new blades without spilling
blood, and they lasted twice as long. However, I still cringe
when I have to buy a package of blades.

I've used the Gillette "goodnews" cheap-o razors for ever with temporary
stretches of braun and norelco electrics (crap).

I have tried various disposable. I end up looking like the guy
shaving in the Airplane movie.

I use the BIC disposable shavers for sensitive skin. Shave and then pitch
it.

Me too. I'd give anything for one those flip open micrometer dial
double edged Gillettes. Lost mine years ago and haven't found another
since. Even thrift and antique shops toss 'em. I still have an
unused 10 pack of Gillette Platinum Blades somewhere. I could get 10
shave easy per blade, dialing the unit up as the blade dulled.

I finally had to resort to disposable razors, a concept I despise.
But, even the early versions were pretty good. I could get many
shaves from a single blade Bic (not a heavy beard). Now, that's all
gone. I not only can't find a single blade shaver, even 2 blade shavers
have disappeared off the shelf. I finally broke down and bought some
3 blade Bics. They cost about a buck each and the damn things
go dull in about 3 shaves. More blades, less sharp, less quality,
more purchases.

The whole marketing model is to get you to keep buying shavers. The
number of blades is just a gimmick and means nothing but an excuse to
hike the price even if each blade is now crap metal. I'm either going
to quit shaving or get a quality safety razor.

Only $.50 for platinum SS replacement blades.

Remember the old SNL commercial parody about the triple bladed
razor

Bet Andy's 5 trac ain't anywhere's near as good as the SNL Womba bikini
trimmer.

BTW.... how did they ever get away with calling those things
"safety razors"?

It was a relative thing. Did you ever try shaving with a straight razor?

My first razor was a straight razor, my father bought me the razor,
strop, mug of soap and badger brush... I think so I wouldn't use his.
Takes a while to get the knack but even with today's laser guided five
tracs nothing shaves nearly as close as a straight razor. Only draw
back to the straight razor is time, takes at least a good ten minutes,
vs under 40 seconds with a modern multi trac.

WHO USED MY BAY RUM ! ! !

To make it almost, just a whisper close to being on topic, how
about getting that infinity razor made by the Ginsu knives people?

Last razor you ever have to buy.

I use a 3 bladed, lotion striped, pivot head with shaving cream and a
bristle brush for a clean close shave (usually in the shower), and a
rechargable electric shaver for if I'm in a hurry (driving in the car
etc) or if I need a 'touch up' in the afternoon before I head out
somewhere.

Years of trying on and off to use norelco made me give up shavers. I
picked up a linear model when I found hat I could use it wet. When I
tried it, I found that it wasn't neccessary to use it with water for a
good shave. My recommendation is for a wet/dry linear model such as
panasonic, but it really is a personal preference...
