Go to your closest bookstore and buy the "Joy of Cooking" cookbook - or
order it online. It's an excellent "primer" for beginner cooks.

Sky, JOC isn't for novice cooks. There has to be something simpler
out there today! The Look & Cook series (Anne Willan) comes to mind,
but maybe there is something even better for novices. I bought a lot
of Sunset (soft cover) and others of that genre when I was still
learning how.

The Good Housekeeping Cookbook is simpler and easier to use than JOC.
