With Jean out of town, Andy and I are batching it. Tonight was a dinner
of grilled D'Artagnan wild boar sausages (that, ironically, Jean had
ordered before departing to assist her niece with childbirth). I'm
loathe to open any wine too good in Jean's absence, so I went down to
the cellar and brought up:

2001 Josef Leitz "Einz Zwei Dry" Riesling QbA

I've had previous vintages of this wine and liked them, but on this
night this wine just isn't doing it for me. A bit too dilute and bland,
a bit lacking in acid, the wine doesn't have the zip and nerve that I
want from Riesling. As a result, it comes across as softly sweet, not
again what I look for in this bottling. It serves passably well with
the (very delicious) sausage, but it's not something I'd buy again.

I'm getting rid of my other non-stick stuff that's not in great shape, and buying a few more of the Ceracraft pans. They do need to be hand washed, but that is super easy because they're slick as snot. I bought one of the large ones, and got it using a $10 off $50 purchase coupon to the new "fanciest grocery store in St. Louis." I hope they have another one of those coupons soon, because I'd like to buy one more 28cm one, two 24cm pans, and one 20cm.

The 11 inch (28cm) was only $30 anyway. It's a shame they don't make casseroles and large roasting pans. I hope it's just, not yet.
But they still believe that you'll wait until they have time to
pull out their guns before you blow their heads off.

In their fantasy land, that's how things work.

That's why it's always better to stand your ground, shoot them
first and ask questions later.

======================================

Unless of course they sneak up and blow your silly brains out before you
have the chance. I guess shooting first is the best defense in your foolish
utopia.

Hope you don't live in MY neighborhood.
"a New Yorker raised by Korean parents ended up in Kentucky cooking
Southern food, "

Chef is Edward Lee - book is "Smoke and Pickles"
http://www.thekitchn.com/smoke-pickl...okbook-189775?
Looks pretty interesting-- Any guesses on what his take on chicken and
waffles is, pictured on the cover?

The crowd at the grand re-opening of Amy's Baking Company was, by most
accounts I've read, no big deal. "Thin crowd" was the description in
several online articles. The BIG news is the nutjob's husband faces
deportation:

http://www.azcentral.com/business/co...et-reopen.html

They cancelled the press-conference which was supposed to "explain
everything". Apparently the folks at Kitchen Nightmares told them if
they disparaged the show (or Gordon Ramsay) they'd sue their asses off.

About the deportation hearing, Samy said, “I want people to know about
me,” he said. “But not today, not tomorrow. I have nothing to hide.”

Not today? Not tomorrow? How about after you're kicked out of the
country, Mr. Playboy Gangsta?

Oh, and their newly hired publicity firm? Even *they* thought the
better of dealing with these people. They quit.

Gotta love it when GOD steps in and says enough already. :D

I needed some more potting soil for the herbs on the upper deck of Casa
Sammamish, so I stopped at Fred Meyer today. Along with the other herbs,
I found a plant with thick, fuzzy, scalloped leaves. It was Cuban
oregano. I bought a plant, along with a pot of Greek oregano. We had
black bean soup and salad for dinner. I added epazote to the soup and
the Cuban oregano to the salad. I may not have added enough epazote to
the soup because it didn't have much taste to me. OTOH, the Cuban
oregano was muy flavorful. Worth a try if you can find it.
