Morning every one...I just found out by my blood work that I am a
boarder line diabetic..so does that mean I might be a diabetic in the
future? I am 69 and very active for my age..not to heavy but can be
because my family is heavy..I am learning a lot from the internet and
from this night group...

I go to curves 3 times a week, I dance 3 times a week, also go to
physical therapy 3 times a week...

I am reading about "Glucerna" very helpful for diabetic...might go to
walgreen and look for some bars????

Thanks for your time....JOY

There are more answers to posts on alt.support.diabetes.

I remember some less encouraging answers about Glucerna.

Save your money! Glucerna bars were first designed for use with diabetic
children to help keep them from having hypos during the night. They didn't
seem to sell very well so they changed their tune and are now marketing them
for diabetics in general. However if you look at one of those bars, you'll
find that it is loaded with chemicals and stuff you don't want to eat. Like
high fructose corn syrup. If it's a bar you want, you'll do better with
something cheaper and tastier like a granola bar. Just check the label
because the carb count can vary.

Sorry Joy, but in my opinon it doesn't mean you're a future
diabetic. It means you're a member of the club right now.

However, while that's the bad news, the good news is that by
finding out early you can do a lot to stop or slow down
progression.

Of course - I'm presuming that without knowing your numbers
- but the doc's don't usually drop that hint without cause.

Come on over to alt.support.diabetes. There are a lot of
experienced people over there - but first, a hint. If you
use the term "borderline" over there, don't say you weren't
warned of a reaction:-)

While you think about it, read this:

Good luck,

Cheers, Alan, T2, Australia.

There is a saying that "Prevention is better than cure".
As you get knowledge about any dieases then it will definately help you
to prevent it.
I found some information related to diabetes, just check it out and

Not new - pretty outdated and not very useful or accurate on diet.

"People with type 1 diabetes should eat at about the same times each day and
try to be consistent with the types of food they choose. This helps to
prevent blood sugars from becoming extremely high or low. Type 2 diabetics
should follow a well-balanced and low-fat diet. "

Alan's already posted the best link for a Type 2:

Hi leenarose

I replied, similar to Nicky, in asd.uk

But don't take it personally:-)

Nice to meet a new face - are you T1, T2 or type weird? How
did that advice help you, and what numbers do you see these
days since following it?

Cheers, Alan, T2, Australia.
