Default Green or red grapes

Hi My husband has been eating alot of Green and red grapes and I am
wondering if this is ok for him. I feel they may have alot of sugar that may
cause his blood sugar level to go up.

My limit is 3... they're little balls of sugar! Berries are a better bet, or
a plum, peach, etc, or half an apple or orange.... bananas are a bad bet
generally. I can eat about 2 bites. Dried fruits such as prunes or apricots
may be OK in moderation... doesn't your husband test his blood glucose, so
he knows the effect of the foods he eats on his blood glucose levels?

Nicky.

Pork rinds, baby carrots, celery sticks, roasted nuts (small amounts),
cheese sticks. Those are my "munchies."

My other favourite snack on the road is marinated olives.
I
keep a hand-towel in the car so that I don't end up covering
the wheel with olive oil.

I keep a daughter, so she can feed them to me : )

To the excellent suggestions above, I'd add a pumpkin/sunflower seed mix -
dead cheap, easy to spice however you (or he) likes it, and full of zinc,
vits, etc.

A common problem for long-distance drivers is his weight, though - you're
going to have to work that in too. It may be that celery and carrot sticks
are what he ought to be eating : )

About 10 grapes is a serving. What does his meter say?

Nuts, cheese, boiled eggs, raw veggies. Granted some of these things have
to be refrigerated. Some beef jerky is okay. Check the carb count.

When I travel, I pack a variety of nuts, some cut-up (bite-sized pieces) of
raw cauliflower, some mini carrots, and cheese cut into approximately
1-ounce portions. I have a small cooler that I fill with artificial ice.
It opens easily so I can reach inside with no driving distraction when I
want to munch on something -- and, of course, the nuts can simply be on a
bag beside me on the seat because they do not need to be cooled. He could
also pack some apples as long as he doesn't overdo it. Celery stuffed with
peanut butter is another possibility.

Hi Kim:

I'm a type 2 diabetic. I just completed a 6 week nutriction class that the
insurance
company paid for. They said that eating 15 small red grapes per day with a
meal are
good for you. This would be like having 1 glass of red wine. The green
grapes are
not good for you either is white wine. This only hold true if your glucose
is under
control.

Grapes do contain quite alot of sugar and it is fast acting, so can lead
to spikes in blood glucose.

As to the red grape-green grape issue, I think most table grapes (as
opposed to wine making ones) are very swet and woudl make a sweet win if
used in that fashion. dry red wine is often recommended in small
quantities, (i glass a day for women, and 2 glasses for men), but I have
never heard of grapes being recommended before this post. I am not saying
it is wrong, but I am surprised. Mayb it is designe dfor those who are
unable to drink wine for various reasons.

Your best bet is not to buy grapes so they are not in the house as
aconstant temptation.

They usually just teach juvinile diabetes stuff, not truly appicable to
type 2. At least my course did.

We've been to 2 such courses (several years apart) and both were for
T2s. Maybe your healthcare providers sent you to the wrong class. If I
were you, I'd call a local hospital and ask if they have a class you can
take. Most larger, regional, hospitals have continuing education
programs and support groups. Sounds like you could use one.
