FBG 118. Lunch was large, button mushroom caps, stuffed with ground pork,
minced mushroom stems and soy sauce, topped with fried garlic and FGBP. One
hour post prandial 142. Two hour 121.

Gotta find low carb 'shrooms!

Fasting bg when you got up, no breakfast? That wasn't carbs in your
mushrooms (they don't have any to speak of), it was liver dump.

But all mushrooms are not created equal! Check

Mushrooms are very low carb; look at the other ingredients, AND, avoid
eating carbs if you test 110 or higher just before eating, period.

Should help.

Thanks, Susan. The other ingredients are listed. No carbs there. As I
replied to Julie,

Not eating 'til my BG is below 110 sounds like a plan. I'll try it. ;-)

No brekkie. Five hours after I got up. Wife chides me for that. ;-(

There doesn't appear to be much difference. For one cup of raw mushrooms, a
couple of kinds have one gram more carb than the other. Oddly the shiitake
have the highest carb count. I wouldn't think these would be used for
stuffing, but I could be wrong. They are more expensive so if I do buy
them, it is in small quantity and mixed with other cheaper mushrooms. I
generally only make sauce out of them.

That might work for you, but I could starve to death. Currently I am seeing
a number below 110 about every 4 days. Grrr... And if I DON'T eat, my BG
only goes higher.

Half a chook or side of beef would fill you? No? But I'd say missing brekky
did the most damage. Do you test between the fasting number and the
beginning of lunch?

Thanks, Ozgirl. I like bacon and eggs for brekkie, get it sometimes. Wife
works, I get up late. The fasting number was at the beginning of lunch. ;-/

As she should. My diabetic nurse told me to eat within 45 minutes of
getting up to keep the liver from pumping out all that glucose. I would
imagine the same advice would apply to you as well.

I do hope this is covered in Jennifer's book. Hubby gets up around 6ish;
he drinks his coffee. I get up around 7.30-8....which is when hubby
takes his insulin, and cooks his omelet! He has been puzzled recently
because his 2hr pp brekkie has been high..150-18o-! I suspect first,
liver dump, and second caffeine. Of course, this has also been tied up
with stopping Avandia.....and five days in hospital with pancreatitis.

He believes her book...even though that has ben the "bible" I have been
quoting!

The minute you are up and active the bg will continue to rise until fed.
It's also quite possible the breakfast din't have enough carbs to switch the
dp off. Who made the mushies? If not you can you ask the wife what else went
into it. There really is nothing in that lot that could make a rise in bg
unless you have progressed very far into diabetes., past the point of diet
working for control.
