Default Rust on Electric Tea Kettle

I have an electric tea kettle (UtiliTea) and I just noticed that it has
some rust spots, on the inside along the seam where the side meets the
bottom.

I put some vinegar in the pot overnight to clean out some hard water
stains (per the instructions) and I only noticed the rust spots after
I'd done that, but they might have been there before - I don't usually
shine a light inside my teapot to see the bottom edge.

Is there anything I can do to get rid of the rust spots, or at least
stop them from getting worse? I'm sure my kettle is out of warranty by
now (I've had it over a year, and I don't think I kept the receipt
anyway). I really like the kettle - it brings water to the perfect
temperature for green tea, without having to wait for boiling water to
cool - so I hate to give it up.

Karen
