I am planning a remodel. Have tentatively ordered GE Monogram bottom
freezer fridge, and a Dacor oven/cooktop.

The salesman is pushing an extended warranty. Should I buy it?

It has long been known that these extended warranties are a bad bet. The
salesman is pushing it because they will make a lot of money on it.
Think about it - the price that you will pay for this warranty must
cover all the repairs they expect plus their profit and administrative
costs.

It's like a lottery. A few people will win while most people will lose.
A few people who buy the warranty will need an expensive repair and will
be happy they got the warranty. Most people will not need a repair and
will have thrown away their $$.

FWIW we have had a Dacor flat-top range for about 7 years. It has worked
fine except that the front panel started cracking. Even though it was
well out of warranty the factory repaired it free.

After living with a side by side frig for most of life, we have a temporary
Samsung bottom freezer, top frig. Everything about it is excellent. I can't
stand the bottom freezer design. You stoop over to get to the freezer,
difficult for a geezer, and everything is lost in three drawers. When we
redo our kitchen I'm going back to the old side by side.

covers plus the salesman's commission and the company's profit. It's
more like a lottery - you buy a ticket and you *may* get lucky (need an
expensive repair) but the vast majority of people never get their money
back. It's a real losing proposition.

And some of them start from the day of purchase. The first time they
called me about warranty was when the Microwave was about 3 months
old. I told them to call me when the regular warranty ran out. Then
I would think about it.
