Default Tilia Foodsaver Canisters in the freezer question

I like to make icecream but don't necessarily eat it very promptly. I
thought perhaps storing it in a Foodsaver canister would help it last
better. My question is, are the canisters safe in the freezer? I assume
that the container plastic (polycarbonate I think) is fine, my concern is
the rubber/elastomer seals on the lid and whatever is inside the little knob
that the tube goes into. I haven't investigated or thought about what kind
of valve is there or whether exposing it to temperature cycling is
advisable.

Similarly, I am curious about how best to clean the lids after they have
been in contact with meat juices and such. I believe the manual says to
simply wipe it with a damp cloth or something like that, but that leaves me
concerned about contamination. Is there a way to sterilize these lids?
What would happen if it were put in the dishwasher, or into boiling water?
What if they were steamed?

Thanks in advance for responses,

Jafar

I have put foodsaver canisters in my freezer. I use them to keep/save
end-of-season fruits. If I leave them (in the freezer) for an extended
time 3 months I notice that the vacuum has failed. Could be because
the seals have failed from freezing or they just get knocked about in
the freezer. Reason hasn't been determined.

Why not use Ball canning/freezer jars? They're reasonably cheap,
and designed to go into the freezer.
