Default Replacement cooktop and oven

It's time to replace my 25yr old Jenn-air Cooktop and Whirlpool oven.

Thinking of going to GE 30" Select-Top downdraft w/2 radiant modules
rather than the GE Profile true smoothtop. Might add grill module
later. Any problems replacing the Jenn-Air w/the GE?

Also considering a 27" GE or Whirlpool oven.

Any thoughts?

In my experience, replacing any Jenn-Air appliance is a positive step.

I have a JennAir range and the downdraft is awful. I would never buy
another downdraft range no matter who made it.

Replacing one downdraft with another suggests that you liked it.

Did you, or are you just stuck with the existing ductwork?

I have no problem w/the downdraft. Seems to work fine. Hope I can adapt
existing ductwork to the GE brand units. Actually, if I want to go with a
solid top instead of modular, the Amana doesn't look bad.

Use caution--My Amana smoothtop range was a disaster and had to be replaced
within 5 years.
The self clean handle broke off; the door handle fell off; it had two
temps--high and barely warm.
The timer malfunctioned and beeped every 60 minutes, 24/7 and had to be
turned off manually each time.
I will never own another Amana product (but that's just me ;-).

I certainly prefer a hood to a down draft, although I've never had a very
powerful hood and it always seemed to be greasy - yuk -- but if I had the
time and money, it would not be another down draft EVER.

I bought a smaller rice cooker a week or so ago, because my rice cooker is
too large to sit on the stove and have the down-draft pull it in; same thing
with tiered steamers. For a hint for those who are stuck (for the present)
with Jenn-Air down-draft, here's a hint. I build a small tent with aluminum
foil on one side of a tall-ish pot to direct the steam into the down draft.
(By the way, I had to build a tent even for my smaller rice cooker, as
well.)

I laughed when I read your hint! I used to wedge a rimless cookie sheet
between the right-side grates and the downdraft vent cover to form a lean-to
over my JennAir grill module. The range is against a wall, so the lean-to
arrangement helped to direct the smoke to the downdraft fan. Without the
lean-to the smoke alarms would go off. After remodeling (post kitchen fire
which unfortunately didn't ruin the range) I installed a replacement
over-the-range microwave. This time around I vented it to the outside. I
haven't had to use the lean-to now that I have the overhead exhaust. The
downdraft helps pull the smoke toward the range and the overhead exhaust
sends it outside. Since I have a microwave/convection unit, the outside
venting sends the heat and smoke from the microwave outside also.
