I'm in the market for a new saute pan. The Sur La Table brand one is the
size I'm after. It's 5 quart, and is tri-ply, which is what I'm looking
for. It sells for $129, which seems like a good price. The All-Clad 4 quart
is $127 at Outlets Online for a second. So they are basically the same
price, but I'm interested in the larger size of the Sur La Table brand.

I don't live by a SLT, so I have never seen the cookware in person. Has
anybody here had a chance to see & pick up a piece of it? Or even better -
do you own some? If so, I'd be thankful for any comments you may have.

Are there any Marshalls or TJ Maxx near you? Sometimes you can pick up All
Clad seconds or other tri-ply (Tramontina, Calphalon) for substantial
discounts. $129 is a lot of money to spend on a saute pan (I know you can
spend even more, but you can also spend a lot less).

Cuisinart also makes a nice 5.5 qt. saute pan in their Multiclad fully clad
line. Very nice weight and finish. It's $79.99 at Amazon, where they also have
a $29 off a $129 housewares purchase going on now. It's deeper than the
All-Clad, but that makes it better for frying and braising. Best deal though is
on Ebay, where these Cuisinart pans go for about $50-$65. A huge 7 quart
sautuese pan can also be had in the new Calphalon One line for about $99.
Gorgeous pan, and supposed to be easy release, and stain resistant.

I've got that same pan in Cuisinarts' "copper" tri-ply line (thin layer of
copper on outside, just enough to make pan difficult to maintain). The
performance of this pan is very good for what I paid.

I paid $5 (yes you read that right) at a Conair outlet because the lacquer
coating had chipped and the pan had a little tarnish on it. The lacquer all
has to come off anyway if you intend to actually cook with the pan.

No way would I have paid the "list" price of $300 , or even the "discount"
price of $130, or even $80 for the Multiclad version of the same pot. $60 is
a "fair" price, $30 would be an excellent deal (this is I think what the
outlets charge on a regular basis) and of course $5 was an absolute steal.
It shows you how essentially the same pot can be sold at vastly different
prices depending on where and how it is sold.

The people on ebay are probably buying them from the outlet store. The
Conair outlet I bought from is in Jackson, NJ.

I saw the line at Macy's at the Mall of America in Minnesota. I would
guess that any large department store with a kitchen department would

I'm not from NJ, so when I looked up Jackson,NJ, on DeLorme, it was there is
one in Camden Co. and one in Ocean Co. Neither town one appeared to have
much around it, so I couldn't decide.

Was just as SLT tonight and looked at their cookware. VERY nice, and the
handles are easier to hold than are my All-Clad. I'd buy them, although the
stainless looks like it might be hard to keep so shiny.
