Default Bottle Stoppers

Someone asked about my bottle stoppers from www.pepper-passion.com and
was wondering if replacement stoppers may be purchased. The answer is
yes, but I can not conceive of whay this would ever be necessary. The
stoppers are made from silicone which is a very durable inert
substance. I like it because it will seal tightly and will not add or
subract flavors to wine or anything else that it is sealing.

Silicone is a very useful substanceand the only thing that prevent is
form more widesread use is the cost. I would guess it is about 5-10
times as expensive as the other materials that it commopnl;y replaces
such as rubber. However it is so much more durable that it is now
used for such things as spatulas for kitchen use, and as frames for
snokels and diving face masks etc. It still has widesread medical use
in spite of the bad rap it got for use in breast implants.

Getting back to bottle stoppers, I prefer the silicone end ovber the
tapered mel ones available for the follwoing reasons

1. The silicone is less expensive and a little easier to instasll on
a wood turning.

2. The silicone does not rely on the weight of the stopper for
sealing and will seal perfectly well in horizontal position. This is
a real plus if you are trying to put a haf full wine bottlew into a
refrigerator.

3. The silicon plug will last forever. The metal plus appear to use
a conventional black rubber sealing ring that will degrade faster.

4. To answer the original question, if you should somehow manage to
destrow the silicone stopper, I can sell you one for $1.00 each.

Regards, Bruce

That would have been me. (and thanks Vox)

Thanks for answering, and also for the thorough explanation.

I'll be considering a stopper from you soon. And some pepper, to be
sure.

I have the feeling that Baldy is Bruce's brother in law. Or just another
email address.

I can assure you I've never met the man, nor heard of him before seeing
his intro about a week ago.

Criminy. Don't be so paranoid. The man does good work. I mostly was
asking about the availability of replacement stoppers.

I'm not paranoid, I'm cynical. After a few years of reading newsgroups you
see many post that try to appear as helpful, but are just advertising at is
worst.

If the man has a good product, I wish him well.
