Default Any comments on Amana bottom-freezer?

Fridge shopping, went to a few stores, and the biggest Amana bottom freezers
seem to be really nice. Only other brand that looked good was Kenmore
Elite, and after a close inspection, they appear to be the same unit.

Any thoughts on function, reliability, and value?

My parents have had several, the most current one bought just a few years
ago. My mom wouldn't buy anything else and hasn't since 1974 when we moved
into a new house.

I got a freezer on the top AMana a few years ago when I got a new fridge
because we couldn't afford the higher price of the freezer on the bottom.

I absolutely love the freezer on the bottom. My Amana, though, has
never been able to maintain an even temperature, develops mold around
the freezer gasket each summer and freezes fresh vegetables solid.

Oh, and the inner door hinges rusted within a year.

Mine is 3 or so years old now and I love it. Very convenient. I get even
temps in mine with the exception of occassionally the freezer gets too
cold and I can frost things in the veggie bins. I keep the refrigerator
at around 34 degrees and it keeps things forever with no spoilage.

My mother has one, I had one, my daughter has one; all the same model,
all bottom freezer. We all love them. Note the "had" in the above.
When we sold our condo, we left the refrigerator there because it was
white; our new kitchen will have stainless appliances. We have since
bought a Maytag bottom freezer (drawer) which is the same as the
Amana, less a few dollars. I'll never have a fridge again that isn't a
bottom freezer.

I also had a top freezer Amana several years ago. Left that with the
house, too. I've always had good results with the Amanas, and
recommend them.

We have had an Amana bottom freezer for 5 years and like it a lot. The
refrigerator shelves are nicely adjustable and easy to remove and clean. The
icemaker has been 100% trouble-free. Having the frezer on the bottom is
definitely a good idea.

I had an Amana bottom freezer for many years in my old house. I loved
it. Besides being a workhorse, it solved the problem of having to ask
the dog to move everytime I opened the fridge door. Since the freezer
door is opened less often, the dog slept undisturbed. Jane

Looks like you're getting a lot of "yes" votes.

Here's another.

I have the Kenmore, mostly because I was able to have it shipped to my
new home for free. I don't know if they are both the same model, but I
wouldn't doubt it.

The bottom freezer makes so much sense to me. Icemaker workds great,
slide out rack works nicely, altho I do load it up quite a lot.

Since the fridge is accessed so much more than the freezer, doesn't it
make sense to not have to bend over to find stuff in the fridge?

Go for it.

I've had the Whirlpool-badged version of this for five years, very happy.

LOL! My dog also likes to park herself right where the fridge door swings!
She is never sleeping, but does have to move occasionally. You would think
she would get tired of moving all the time, but no. Once in a great while,
she will watch kitchen activities from underneath the kitchen table, but not
all the time. She just KNOWS that globs of cookie dough inevitably fall
when we make the sugar cookies! (Sad but true)

So, she would probably like a bottom freezer fridge better, too! LOL!

We LOVE ours! We replaced a two-year-old Whirlpool in late October.
Duh-me! When I bought the Whirlpool, I didn't realize that the chiller
space was less in the new one than in the old -- and the freezer space
was more. Not what I needed. I cursed it every time I opened the door.
Made a charitable donation of it when we bought the Amana. I really
like not having to bend down to see the bottom back shelf contents. It
wasn't cheap and I don't regret a penny!

I must have gotten the Amana Lemon.
