Default Villaware waffle irons

Reading Alton Brown's "Gear for your Kitchen" page 143, he says "Pecan Sour
Cream Wafles" These are worth buying a waffle iron for." On page 144, he
says, "I like Villaware Waffle Irons. They get hot Fast, recover Fast, have
a clear "Ready" light and a shrill alarm to tell me when to pour."

I'm sold on Villaware and will buy Villaware, but they make so darned many
waffle irons, it's really hard to choose the right one.
There must be a dozen on this page at amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=...0waffle%20iron

and at cooking.com - they are all there, too.

Has anyone bought one of these lately?
Thanks,
Dee

The main thing is to decide if you want Belgian or traditional
waffles. If you want Belgian, I have nothing to offer, because I don't
like them. 8

If you like traditional waffles, the Villaware heart-shaped waffler (a
steal for $39 at your Amazon link -- I may buy an extra!) is terrific.
It has two general settings, and at the one marked something like (I'm
at work) "Crispy Exterior", it cranks put perfect waffles in about 90
seconds, with no recovery time required in between.

Easy no-stick cleanup, excellent consistency of the darkness settings.

I only wish I could find a waffler this good that made the larger,
4-section, 10" square traditional waffles, but I never have.

Dee,
I've got this one and it works like a champ. Snazzy too.

Happily recommend it.

Thanks. That looks just like my panini grill. If it's as good as my panini
grill, then it must be a winner!

I do have a combination waffle/pizzelle iron, and it makes thin waffles. The
mixture invariably flows over the top and down into the housing - whatta
mess.

Thanks for your recommendation. I've been looking at all of the waffle
makers. Regarding yours
http://www.cooking.com/products/shprodde.asp?SKU=390459
I see two things I'm wondering about -- even though I don't expect you to
know the answer - is that in many of the more expensive Belgian Waffle
makers, they will state the heighth of the waffles; i.e., 1-1/4" or 1-1/2",
but this one does not. Wondering why.
http://www.cooking.com/products/shprodde.asp?SKU=390459

Also, I was under the impression that my Villa Ware Panini Grill, very
similar in design to this one, was made in Italy because the tag that comes
along with it touts Italy and their company. But I see that it is actually
made in China. Not to wonder about that as they have soo many models. And
nothing wrong with made in China, but I always prefer 'made in Italy.' I
see the Krups which I have include the site for above is also made in China,
but it does give the size of the waffles as 1.5".

The Krups looks pretty interesting, too. But I like my Villa Ware Panini
Grill so much, that I sure want to go with VillaWare if I can (even though
not made in Italy.)
Dee
