Kamado lids are spring-loaded on the 3 larger sizes. Where are you? post a
question on the Kamado forum, and I'll bet someone will invite you over for a sampling. BOB I did just what you said probably about a year ago and didn't get a single nibble other than the "you won't be disappointed" type. My concern was really the weight of the lids and my butter fingers dropping and banging it down. I did run and take a look at the BGE though. Paula |

Thanks Chris. I did manage to make it down there before they closed. Tight
squeeze trying to get from Pasadena to League City before 6:00 during rush hour! I did like the way that the lid closed. That was my worry. Plus, my husband finally got to see what I was talking about. He had trouble getting past the price tag on the Kamodo or the BGE. Have you fired yours up yet? I think I may get one before Thanksgiving and try out a turkey on it. I'm just not really sure of the size. It seems like the big one is just a tad small. I wish they came bigger... Paula |

Since you're still looking, may I suggest you check out Grill Dome also. A
quality product. (I have no affiliation with them except as a satisfied customer.). I had never heard of the Grill Domes before (www.grilldome.com). Thanks for the tip. Do you know how the thickness of the ceramic compares to the BGE or Kamodo? Paula |

Paula I have a 3 or 4 year old Grill Dome. The ceramics seem a tad thicker than the Egg, but I have not measured either.I have the 18 1/2 " grill with an upper grill(you can get that at Chim Chimny) . I have done 4 racks of spareribs at once and if I had used a rib rack it would have held more. Jack |

Paula First let me say that ceramic thickness comparisons are only valid if the ceramics are the same. They aren't. With that said, I believe that the grill Dome is slightly thicker than the BGE or Primo but less thick than the Kamado. But again, the ceramics are different, especially the Kamado. It needs that extra thickness to be comparable. But then it is also much heavier and shipping costs more. As an aside, I wouldn't make too much out of the ceramic thickness. All the ceramic cookers will turn out great food. I suggest you look at product quality, customer service and price. You can get a feel for this by reading the forums of each product for a month or so. I did this and obviously I felt that Grill Dome was the best. And I got it delivered within 10 days of ordering. |

I wish they came bigger... Paula We fired it up last week... husband did a steak on it. Came out too rare for his taste (he prefers medium rare), but came out rare which suited me just fine! Tonight we're going to try burgers on it. Did you speak with Brad or Brenda at Chim-Chimney? Brad is planning on doing a demonstration at the beginning of November about doing a turkey on the BGE. Chris in Pearland, TX P.S. - oh yeah the price tag g I was surprised the largest one was so much more expensive than the medium. It didn't seem to be that much bigger, but we bought the large one anyway. Checked prices on the 'net' when we got back to the house after our purchase... Chim-Chimney came out about $1 cheaper than mail order from the least expensive source I could find.... even including delivery, TX sales tax, and assembly. No personal financial interest in Chim-Chimney! |

doing a demonstration at the beginning of November about doing a turkey on the BGE. We talked to Brenda. I told her that "Chris in Pearland" just got theirs and sent us her way. I will check and see if I can make it there for the demo though. I'd love to have one by Thanksgiving to do a turkey on. Oh, and I should add that I'd love for the turkey to be edible. My last turkey "adventure" was during the deep frying stage and I "mummified" 2 turkeys. My husband was just in hysterical fits of laughter, until he realized that he had nothing to eat.... Paula |
