Default rotisserie noise

I borrowed a Showtime brand rotisserie from someone to see how I liked it
and the chicken turned out great, but the loud, squeeky noise from the
rotiserre turning was annoying. I want to buy one but want to know if all
rotisseries are like this.
Is the noise normal for this appliance? Is it the brand? Any advice would be
appreciated. Thanks. Sis

Buy one from a place where you can return it if you aren't pleased. Costco
comes to mind as do the TV shopping networks. They all take back used
products, no questions asked. Only you know what noise level is
unacceptable. The rotisseries that I have used all make some noise - not a
squeaking noise, but more of a labored sound from the motor that varies due
to the unavoidable unbalanced load.

Rhe one I have now is no longer made. It runs on a low voltage transformer
and goes in your regular oven. I got it from Frontgate. I have had
rotisseries on my outdoor grill, but noise wasn't a consideration. I would
say that you will be limited to what is available at the merchante you
choose.

HSN has a couple of units. The Wolfgang Puck is rather expensive and has
recieved some awful reviews. You can see it and read the reviews he

This one at Costco looks nice in the store, but I haven't use it. You can
buy from Costco online even if you aren't a member and you can return them
to a local store if you wish.

As usual, good sound advice from Vox. The other possibility is get one
for your grill. I got one for my Weber and use it year round. Noise is
outside. No clean up except for the rack that holds the food. I use it
year 'round in upstate NY.

The squeak may be the roller for the rotisserie riding on the support. A
drop of cooking oil cures it.

I have a Ronco Showtime and it is quiet enough so as not to be a bother at
all. Try a rib eye roast and a pork loin also.

Thanks so much for you help and for including those links to websites. I
think the one from Cosco would be the better of the two. Sis

Is the grill rotisserie electric? How does it work?- Do you just set it on
top of the grill rack? That sounds like a good idea. Thanks. Sis

Yes, runs on 110. Works great or I'da thrown that sucker in the garbage
a long time ago. ;-) I have to take the grates out with the one that I
have. I see that they've re-designed them since I bought as mine doesn't
look like any of these. If you have a Weber it's worth looking in to.
IMO Only problem with the rot. is that I can't use a wireless remote
temp. monitor probe with it like I do with the WSM but that's a small
price to pay. It comes down to getting the timing "down".

I have the showtime & love it. The loud squeak you here is from the
rotisserie shaft rubbing on metal. Look at where the rotisserie sits in the
unit. You will see what I mean. Lube it up with olive or vegetable oil & the
problems solved. Works everytime on mine.

Yes, but you're providing a fertile breeding ground for bacteria and food
contamination. You might try using mineral oil, or a dinosaur-based lubricant
oil.

Not much breeding is going to happen with one drop of oil heated to 300+
degrees.

I agree with you, Ed. I wipe down the inside of the rotisserie after using
it anyway and would then apply fresh oil with each use. I think I would
worry about mineral oil getting into the drip pan. Is mineral oil edible? I
don't know.(?) Sis

Mineral oil is OK (often used for cutting boards) , but just not needed if
you have the cooking oil handy.
