I just got one, and I'm being dumb here.
The assembly instructions say: "Place the gasket carefully into the lid, ensuring that it lies on the roof and under the flanges." That much seems easy, and the gasket appers symmetrical, so no need to guess which side is up. Then there are two pictures, with the text: "Check that the coloured safety bolt is pushing into the gasket." To me, that suggests the bolt should be deflecting the gasket towards the center of the lid. This is accompanied by two photos. One shows the bolt deflecting the gasket towards the center, and is accompanied by a large red cross. The other shows the gasket tucked between the bolt and the roof, and is accompanied by a large red tick. This is the exact opposite of what I assumed by the text. Then there's a diagram that I think is consistent with the text. Neither approach was obviously the correct one when I look at the hardware. Perhaps the Swiss use a cross to signify correct, and a tick to signify wrong. Please help. |

You've proably figured it out by now, but...

That much seems easy, and the gasket appers symmetrical, so no need to guess which side is up. Then there are two pictures, with the text: Are you sure there aren't three pictures? (Assuming your owner's book is the same as mine, which is likely.) "Check that the coloured safety bolt is pushing into the gasket." This being one of them (although technically it's a diagram)... To me, that suggests the bolt should be deflecting the gasket towards the center of the lid. That's right. This is accompanied by two photos. One shows the bolt deflecting the gasket towards the center, and is accompanied by a large red cross. The other shows the gasket tucked between the bolt and the roof, and is accompanied by a large red tick. ....and these being the other two. Look at them more closely-- does the picture with the red tick also have a red arrow pointing at something? That "something" would be a bit of metal, what the text calls a "flange." You can distinguish it from the bolt because 1) the bolt is plastic, 2) the bolt is colored (mine is blue), and 3) the bolt is located where the handle is, while the flanges are not. Also, the gasket won't fit under the bolt, but it tucks neatly under the flange just as shown in the picture. Neither approach was obviously the correct one when I look at the hardware. Perhaps the Swiss use a cross to signify correct, and a tick to signify wrong. Nope, it's meant the same way we use it. |

That's the answer. I wasn't paying enough attention, and assumed that was the bolt. Thanks |

Hard to believe you felt you had to carefully read a manual to fit a silicone gasket into the only place it would fit. (When I got my first Kuhn-Rikon pressure cooker, circa 1999-2000, it was utterly obvious where the gasket went. I didn't have to read any instructions. That you have belabored this in several posts, expecting readers here to help you to understand the manual, gives new meaning to the initials "AR.") --Tim May |
