A recent post regarding problems with a defective Thermador oven leads
me to ask about Amana.

We have had two, high-end Amana refrigerator-freezers and both have
been maintenance nightmares. One was replaced completely by Amana
after the freezer liner split open!

We've been plagued by compressor problems, electrical problems,
icemaker problems water-dispenser problems and problems with service
personnel who were simply incompetent!

Maytag (actually Maycor) recently purchased Amana and I can guarantte
you that the Matag repairman is running his ass of!

Has anyone had similar Maytag problems? Have you obtained any relief
from those huge repair bills?

FWIW we have had an Amana bottom freezer unit for over 5 years without a
single problem.

I have had an Amana (freezer on top) for about 3 years without a problem.
Everything works. Only bad thing is we don't use the ice fast enough and
sometimes it's kind of nasty, so every now and then I dump the ice and let
it start over.

SNIP
I had one for about 7 years and the compressor went bad. I wasn't very
happy. I'm not sure I'm going to buy another Amana.

My Amana side by side still is great with no problems after 9 years. Just the
luck of the draw in some cases.
