On our kitchen remodel and expansion, we will have a 30" "normal"
white porcelain range with on hi burner next to a DCS or Thermador wok burner set in a 30" base cabinet. I would appreciate advice on: 1. Suggested CFM I have found two "guidelines" "The Home Ventilating Institute (HVI), a fan manufacturers' trade association, recommends range hood capacity of 40 to 50 CFM per linear foot of range, or about 120 to 150 CFM for the standard 30-in. range -- far less than the 600+ CFM that dealers sometimes recommend." Which would give us 5 x 50 or 250 CFM. Since we have a hi output wok burner even doubling that would be a 500 CFM unit. From a hood manufacturer: "Grills and high-output gas cooktops: Require high performance range hoods with 1200 CFM or more." Not very surprisingly the vendor recommends a much higher (read expensive) CFM unit 2. Is it reasonable and what are the pros and cons of installing two adjoining 30" range hoods? How much room between the two would be needed? SInce the wok burner would be used only 4 or so evenings a week, running a 60" unit (even at a lower fan speed) every time just the stove cooktop is being used seems impractical. Plus, two 30" hoods are cheaper than one 60" Has anyone done this? 3. Any recommendations on preferred range hood brands? _____ "How I wish that somewhere there existed an island for those who are wise and of good will."
