Spotted a knife set that looked like a real bargain
http://tinyurl.com/6zoybg

My concern is that these may be a "special edition" not up to usual
standards or a knock off with a fancy name attached. Any opinions? TIA

They're not forged Wusthofs. And to me, the handles aren't nearly as
comfortable as the Forschners.

But if they meet your needs, have at 'em...

Considering that ONE knife can cost that price, you have to know that 16 in
a set is going to be a compromise on quality. They may be OK for what they
are, but they certainly can't be the same as the traditional knives that
built their reputation. I'd want to see them in person first.

The handle is the single reason I can't get away from Forschners. I've
tried so many other knives, some with better quality blades, but nothing
fits my hand like my Forschners. JMTCW and I know IU'm off topic g

At
http://www.cutleryandmore.com/emeril...tm?FamilyBD=12

They have a 10 and 18 set of Emeril/Wusthof.

However, they are offering a free block with $150 worth of knives. I'd
rather spend $150 and pick the knives I wanted (if I knew what I were
doing ;-) ) At this expenditure, cutleryandmore offers free shipping,
so that would not be a concern here.

This site has wonderful sales. A few weeks ago I bought a duplicate
of a $84 knife for $20 that I had previously bought and really liked.

I believe someone here turned me onto this site. I've purchased a lot
here and really like it.

Might be a great deal....just look to see if the knife slots are
horizontal instead of vertical so the blade doesn't rest if you would
put it in "upside" down.

That's the last of my worries. I just saw my wife use one of my knives
to slice through corrugated cardboard to reshape a box.

What sort of knives do you have in your kitchen that are going to be
damaged by cutting cardboard? Knives get dulled if they get used.
Big deal. Sharpen them and cope.

Get over yourself. Ask your wife how she would feel if you used her
sewing scissors to cut cardboard.

I will sharpen my knives, as required. If she didn't use them
inappropriately, I wouldn't have to sharpen them as often, or find that
they needed sharpening before I expected that they would.

Yes, after she was done, the knife was too dull to be lethal:-)

My knives come from there, too. I also got a great price from them on my
Calphalon a few years ago.
