Default Cheap wholesale chocolate

Greetings,
Is there someone who knows about a site/store/place that sells good
quality wholesale chocolate? Chocolate melts good for making candy and
the like.

I currently buy 14 ounce bags (Wilton) from Michaels and was wondering
if there is a source out there that would be cheaper.

Thank you for your help.

Are you sure you are looking for the real chocolate ?
Keep in mind that low cost' chocolate' productsregardless of origin or
manufacture are just compounded items: made with cocoa powder, sugar
,cocoa butter alternative fats( hardended coconut oil or palm kernel
oil,HPKO),and other materials that depends on the simple
classification according to what other ingredients are incorporated
then:ark, milk and white.
It is appropriate to call those cheapy (not real chocolate ) products
as coatings.

Real chocolate is made from cocoa mass, sugar, cocoa butter etc.
Regarding suitable source, the internet can provide you lots of
ideas; There are other people here who can provide you with possible
sources also..
BTW
Check the labelling compositions, to check if the product that you
prefer is the real or just the compounded item and that can help you
idenitfy what chocolate material you really need.

Where you go depends whether you want candy melts or real chocolate.

For candy melts, you might try any of the zillions of candy-making supply
sites out there....
www.sugarcraft.com, for example. (I don't know if they're
wholesale, but their prices are usually lower than stores and they are a
good source for various candy-making supplies.) One piece of advice: if you
plan to stay with candy melts, upgrade to Merckens. Wilton candy melts are
crap, to be generous. If you do a google search , you should find many
places to buy the Merckens line, and I guarantee that you will be very happy
you switched.

If you want real chocolate, that's another story, and would require
significantly more work on your part and/or equipment to use it: tempering
being only the first hurdle.

Can you give me some idea of application and volume? If you're only buying
14-oz bags (unless it's in case volume), it's probably overkill to go for a
"real" wholesaler.

As others have pointed out, you need to know whether you want compound
coating or real chocolate. That all comes down to whether your priorities
are ease of use and price or quality and range of characteristics. Compound
coatings tend to be similar in handling characteristics and flavour. Real
chocolate is usually available with a wider range of viscosities, tempering
points, and flavour profiles.

And "cheap" depends on one's POV. For instance, a good, cheap real
chocolate like Guittard Gourmet Bittersweet can be found for $30/10-lb
block or cheaper. Nonetheless a compound coating will be even less.
Mercken's compound coatings can be in the range of $20/10-lb. Meanwhile, an
"elite" chocolate like Michel Cluizel's Los Ancones could be $125/5 kg. But
even this price I would consider cheap, relative to what you're getting and
especially relative to what the competition in that high-end market segment
might expect.

Meanwhile,
http://www.chocolateman.net is a good place to start for real
chocolate in medium volumes. They have a good selection, decent if not
rock-bottom prices, and the ability to fulfill small orders.
