I'm not a newcomer to beer, though I'm not exactly a connoiseur. Recently I
grabbed a bottle of Ston'e Arrogant ******* just because the label caught my
attention and it's now my Number 1 Beverage. Without rehashing previous
discussions over its alleged greatness, what I want to know is: If someone
thinks that AB is a terrific brew, what else would you recommend to him?

If someone thinks that AB is a terrific brew, what else would you recommend to him?

Stone Ruination
Anderson Valley Hop Ottin
Great Divide Hercules
Deschutes Hop Henge
Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye

That should get you started nicely.

Where you are will make a difference in what's available but ...
Lagunitas Maximus is what I bought last night when I went in to get an
AB, and I enjoyed it, lots of hop but didn't seem as complex as AB.
You might also try Sierra Nevada's Bigfoot.
Oh yeah Stone make an IPA too

Nice list. Throw in Sierra Nevada Bigfoot and Great Divide Old Ruffian
for some high-hopped barleywines.

If Stone AB has done antying, it's created something of a
style IMO. I don't like the style, but I can't think of
anything anaglous. "******* Ale", I suppose. Not much of a
recommendation, is it?

But the following postings/recommendations of IPAs and such
are misguinded. AB and DB are weirdo everything-in-the-
kitchen kind of beers. Hop Ottin? Bear Republic Anything?
C'mon...

I think that the bottle (your reason for buying in the first
place) has much to do with ABs success. And they seem to
have a helluva distribution system in place. Don't get me
wrong, Stone makes beautiful beers, but AB isn't one of them.

I think very little of AB and DB. But that is my opinion.

Fair enough, you would think my taste in pizza is weird too. When I'm cooking
my own I prefer a pepperoni-anchovy-red onion-feta-capers-kalamata with crushed
red peppers and a dash of gorgonzola (the cheese monster) if I'm in an indulgent
mood. If it's takeout and the options are available, a simple
pepp-anchovy-jalapeno will hold my interest.

The local safeway makes deli sandwiches. I get'em with all the fixin's: olive
tapanade, pickles (both kinds), horseradish dressing, deli mustard, peperoncini,
all the veggies. But hold the mayo, please.

Everything-in-the-kitchen? Sign me up! A genuine personal preference or a
statement of style? Who's to say? It's probably some of both.

I think very little of AB and DB. But that is my opinion.

I do. I tried the Stone IPA and it'll do as a backup, but its personality is
just not as appealing to me.

So what do you think I should check out? Laphroig isn't my only scotch, either.
It all depends on the mood.

I don't have enough time for my current hobbies, let alone new ones. Maybe once
the kids are a bit older.

Bullshit. The original poster wanted people who *like* AB to suggest
other beers that they also like. He did not say "name another beer that
tastes like AB". I think Arrogant ******* is alright, although the last
time I had it on tap it seemed to have a strong diacetyl presence that
I hadn't noticed before which to me was unpleasant. Actually I think
Double ******* is much much better than Arrogant ******* - seems more
integrated somehow. So there you go:

Mister OP - try out some Double *******. But stay away from the oaked
******* - yuck.
