Thanks to some out-of-the blue change in flight schedules, I will have to
spend 3 instead of 2 hours fiddling my thumbs on Chicago O'Hare airport in April. Is there somewhere a pub on the transit grounds servings something besides BCM-Heineken garbage? If so, can you give me an more or less precise idea where to search for it? Also, can somebody tell me what to do between normal evening hours and 05.00AM, when I have to appear on the Seattle International Airport? (plane leaving 07.10...) |

There's a Goose Island at the front of Terminal 2 (airside, though, so you'll need to walk from the other terminals and/or have your boarding pass). Berghoff serves an OK beer in Terminal 1. -Steve |

Berghoff serves an OK beer in Terminal 1. Sorry, I got a bit itchy with the "send" finger. So, presumably you'll be arriving at Terminal 5, the international terminal? Which airline are you flying domestically? The distance between the terminals can be walkable, but it can be a long walk (well, walking to/from T5 is going to be a *really* long walk, as it's not connected). Terminals 1-3 are connected, but it can be a hike from one to the other. There's a tram on the grounds, but I don't know how tight they are anymore about letting you go through security in T2 if you're on an airline that's flying out of T1, for instance. But Goose is your best bet, and fortunately it's just past security, so you don't have to wander too deep into the terminal. And it's not too bad a walk to T1. -Steve |

Arriving FROM Seattle, actually, and going TO the International Airport, and having to spend 3 hours. Even with security, that's a long wait. Would they really make a fuss about where I waited? Even with security, that's a long wait. Would they really make a fuss about where I waited? Tough to say. The TSA does weird things, and they don't do anything consistently. In this case, since the international terminal is an entirely separate building, I could see how they might not let you into Terminal 2. On the other hand, not every international flight departs from T5. United and Lufthansa depart out of T1, American out of T3. If you're on any of them, you'd likely have no problem at all. If you do leave out of T5, I suppose one option is not to leave the terminal after you've landed until you really need to, because domestic flights almost always land in T1, 2 or 3 (some rare ones land at T5, but they're typically small airlines; the majors almost always stick to the three domestic terminals). I do remember that Terminal 5 has very little in teh way of food or drink, good or not, airside. Most of it's just before the security area. At least it used to be that way. Not sure about it these days; it's been four years since I've departed from that terminal. -Steve Depending on which airline and class of ticket, you may some other options. I just passed through O'Hare on the way back from Tokyo on Friday. I was on United with a Business Class seat which gave me admittance to the Red Carpet Club. They had Goose Island in the lounge at Terminal 1. Any Star Alliance partner (Lufthansa, etc) an the right ticket should get you in. |

There's a Goose Island at the front of Terminal 2 (airside, though, so
you'll need to walk from the other terminals and/or have your boarding pass). Last time I was at O'Hare there was pub with Goose Island in Terminal 3 near where the J and K concourses fork (American airlines territory). I am very, very happy to say, though, that this was like 6 years ago, and I have been able to avoid ORD by flying regular-sized jets via DTW and MSP on NW every since! |
