Default Goose Island Pere Jacques

I picked up a four pack of this recently. This is the first time I
have seen their Reserve series. Is this a new thing, or have I missed
previous editions? I know they make a lot of different beers in their
pubs.

The beer was decent. A Belgian style ale. It had some banana in the
nose. A dry malty flavor. Pretty easy drinking even at 9%abv. I've
been drinking a lot of Belgians lately, and this didn't have the
complexity of the real thing.

It's relatively new. I think they've put out three beers as part of
their Reserve series so far. There's the Pere Jacques, Demolition 1800,
and Bourbon County Stout. I'd say the Pere Jacques and Demolition are
not bad. The Bourbon County Stout though, is just fantastic. I don't
think they made as much of the BCS though. I only saw it in a couple of
Chicago area liquor stores, and it seemed to sell pretty quickly. It's
also a bit more expensive, and around $18 a four pack. But if you see
it, give it a try.

Pretty new I think. A friend brought me some that he picked up in Iowa in
december. It showed up in Wichita about 2 months ago.

I loved it myself.
I understand its a clone of Chimay Blue (if not a clone per se, at least
an attempt at capturing the essence of Chimay Blue) but its alot better
than the last 3-4 times I've had the Blue. In fact the first time I
sampled the Pere Jacques I was going nuts comparing it to Rochefort 10.
Subsequent samples reveal I was clearly going overboard, but I still think
its one of the top belgian style ales made in North America.

I'll second that, but with a caveat -- if you don't like big, high
alcohol beers, BCS may be a little too much for you. However, if
you like Imperial Stouts, Samichlaus and EKU 28, you HAVE to try
the BCS!

That's been my experience too. The Pere Jacques is also a little
rare, but that's because it's been available for a longer time.
The Demolition is still available "everywhere" (where it would be
found in the first place).

It's also a bit more expensive, and around $18 a four pack.
But if you see it, give it a try.

Again, if you LIKE that sort of thing and can afford it, DO IT!
Yummy!
