I haven't seen it around here yet but from what I've read it seems like
it's farily close to style for schwarzbier (did I get that one right ya nitpicking german-o-philes?). I miss you Koestritzer! Speaking of Sam Adams their double bock is out and I picked up a six last night. Seemed a touch fruity along with the requisite maltiness, which is odd considering this is a lager and all the German doppelbocks I've had have been on the sweet side but without a trace of esters. _Randal |

Heh. Speaking of Sam Adams their double bock is out and I picked up a six last night. Seemed a touch fruity along with the requisite maltiness, which is odd considering this is a lager and all the German doppelbocks I've had have been on the sweet side but without a trace of esters. I've experienced a weird kind of fruitiness in Bajuvator, and in the Baltic porters. I'm starting to think it might be malt-based rather than yeast. -- Lew Bryson www.LewBryson.com Author of "New York Breweries" and "Pennsylvania Breweries," 2nd ed., both available at www.amazon.com The Hotmail address on this post is for newsgroups only: I don't check it, or respond to it. I haven't tried this year's Samuel Adams DB, but I've heard it's different -- that they've raised the alcohol content slightly. Speaking of doppelbocks, I tried S'muttonator last weekend. I thought that one had some fruitiness; it was also hoppy for a doppel. But there was also plenty of rich, sweet malt. I loved it. |

I've tried the SA Black Lager. It's good but not great. The only way I saw it offered was in a variety 12 pack. I'm not interested in buying a variety pack to get one or two beers I want to try. Has anyone seen it in a stand alone six pack? Thanks, Bruce |
