Is this going to be another malt liquor is the drink of choice for blacks thing? I believe the euphemism in the brewing industry for those who drink malt liquors is "ethnic market". I always found it amusing that young blacks who drank malt liquor (admittedly, mostly for the high) were ridiculed for paying a slightly higher price for beer with a higher alcohol content while the white, middle class was paying a higher price for beer that had LESS alcohol, LESS taste and used LESS expensive ingredients and/or had MORE water (i.e., "light" beer). JK (yeah, I used to buy the occassional case of Heffenreffer Private Stock Malt Liquor back in the days of the Falstaff Cranston RI brewery. I could see a "relationship" between it and Ballantine XXX Ale, Croft Ale and Pickwick Ale...). |

I believe the euphemism in the brewing industry for those who drink malt liquors is "ethnic market". They call it the "urban market," but yeah, it's a euphemism. Speaking as a guy who writes about beer, it is almost IMPOSSIBLE to get mainstream brewers to talk about their malt liquors. They just do not want to see anything about them in print. -- Lew Bryson www.LewBryson.com Author of "New York Breweries" and "Pennsylvania Breweries," 2nd ed., both available at www.amazon.com The Hotmail address on this post is for newsgroups only: I don't check it, or respond to it. I remember the first time I tried malt liquor.
I believe it was Colt 45. I sat on my usual bar stool and drank the same quantity as I would have regular beer. It finally came time to eliminate some of the beer. I got off of the stool, and WHAM! It hit me. |
