Wow, it was hot last weekend, with temperatures over 100 degrees Friday and
Saturday. But I did pace myself and samples the good, bad, and the ugly.
Here's my list of winners and losers:

Big Sky Brewing Summer Honey Ale - A surprise, since I usually don't like
this style. However, this one was clean, crisp, and had a nice, full
flavor.

WINNERS:
Boundary Bay Dry Hopped Simcoe Pale Ale - I haven't tried many beers using
the Simcoe hop; this beer uses only the Simcoe hop. Nice hoppiness and not
harsh at all. Overall, this beer scored the highest among our group.

E.J. Phair Pilsner - This one reminded me of a hoppy Urquell. Excellent.

Golden Valley Champagne Barrel Aged IPA Brut - Slightly sweet IPA with good
balance and finish. Yum.

Morro Bay Dad's Pale Ale - Very rich pale, bordering on a strong ale.

Victory Prima Pils - I've enjoyed this one many times in the bottle. It's
even better on draft.

Walking Man Black Cherry Porter - Not technically at the festival, this one
was across the river at the Rose and Raindrop. Both the Black Cherry Porter
and the Strong Ale at the R & R were awesome. I didn't try their beer at
the fest, called Knuckle Dragger, but I'm guessing it was great.

LOSERS:
Green Flash Hefeweizen - Attempt at German style Hefeweizen fizzles, maybe
just fizzy.

Rockies Hazed & Infused - Cute marketing and hyped cloudiness can't hide the
fact that this is weak beer with little flavor.

Walkabout Brewing Worker's Pale Ale - I really want this brewery to succeed,
as it is a small Oregon brewery in the country. However, unless soap is
part of the recipe, this one misses the mark. Not to be confused with
Walking Man Brewing, which is truly excellent.

Because of the heat, I wasn't able to try everything. But there was plenty
of other good beers, too numerous to mention. Rogue, Terminal Gravity,
Lucky Labrador, Lagunitas, Big Time, and Alameda all poured good beers (as
usual).

These were my two favorites at the OBF. You're about the heat...too hot. I
couldn't enjoy everything I wanted to.

I agree with you that Rogue and TG are 2 of the best breweries in the area,
and Rogue is probably my favorite brewery, period. That being said, I'm
such a fan of the TG IPA that maybe their pale didn't compare favorably,
although I did like it a lot. Rogue had a very intersting Rye IPA that was
a little sour in my opinion, but obviously many others disagreed. I was
told by a volunteer that the Rogue sold out on Saturday and there was
nothing left for Sunday. Rogue always introduces new ideas at the fest,
such as the Imperial Pilsner, Skullsplitter, and Double Mogul (that's going
way back) in prior years.

I remember they year they brought the Rogue Charlie Redux. Great stuff.
Rogue and Widmere usually make something special just for that event.

Have you ever been out to Enterprise to visit the TG brewery? Great place.
They also have a kick ass stout too.

I would love to go to Enterprise, although it's a bit of a drive from my new
home of beervana (Portland), Oregon. I have had the TG ESB, IPA, and Pale.
All were excellent. I haven't seen their stout on draft around here yet,
but I will keep checking at some of my local favorite places (R & R, Horse
Brass, Lompoc, Flanders, Crow Bar, and many others). I've heard the Bottom
Office on SE 12th has a good tap selection, though I haven't been there yet.

Have you tried anything from Walking Man?

I made a visit to Walking Man Brewing a couple of weeks ago. My favorites
were the Homo Erectus IPA and Knuckle Dragger.

Yeah, a trip to Enterprise from Portland is quite the trip, but going with a
couple of friends and hanging out in the small towns (Enterprise and Joseph)
and doing some hiking around the Wallowa mountains made it worthwhile.

I'm loving hearing the good things people are saying about Rogue's Gone
Awry. It's taken almost directly from my homebrew recipe. John
attended a brew session at my house and asked me for the recipe. It's
really close to my original beer.

I didn't realize at the time that it was a rye beer, so that might've
influenced my impression of this beer. Too bad there wasn't any left on
Sunday, or else I wouldn't tried it again.
