Default Gravity Head event at Rich O's in New Albany, IN

I'm on the e-mail list for Rich O's Public House in New Albany, IN (just
across the river from Louisville, KY: don't ask why I'm on the list, it's a
long, albeit pleasant story), and got notice of the following event. Damn
sure wish I could go! More info available at www.newalbanian.com and
www.richos.com .

GRAVITY HEAD 2004, VOLUME 6.
CARBOHYDRATE LEVELS LOW? WE'VE GOT THE CURE.
The insane spectacle known as Gravity Head begins on Friday, March 12, 2004.
The list that follows includes kegs currently being stored deep within the
NABC [New Albanian Brewing Co.] caverns and those that have been ordered
explicitly for Gravity Head VI. The total so far is 41, a number that
defies comprehension . but there may yet be others.
American Microbrews
Anderson Valley Brother David's Belgian-style Dubbel
BBC Brewing Company Bearded Pat's Barley Wine 2002
Bell's Batch 6000
Bell's Consecrator Doppelbock
Bell's Sparkling Ale
Bluegrass Brewing Company Mephistopheles Metamorphosis
Browning's Hercules Ale
Great Lakes Anniversary Ale
NABC Solidarity Baltic Porter
North Coast Old Stock Ale
Rocky River (Cleveland, OH) Zeus Juice
Rocky River (Sevierville, TN) Grand Cru (barrel-aged)
Rogue Imperial India Pale Ale (I2PA)
Rogue Imperial Pilsner
Rogue Imperial Stout
Rogue Old Crustacean Barley Wine (1999?)
Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Barley Wine 2003
Stone Double ******* Ale 2003
Stone Imperial Stout
Stone Old Guardian Barley Wine
Stone Ruination Ale
Two Brothers Bare Tree Weiss Wine
Two Brothers NorthWind Imperial Stout
Upland Winter Warmer

Imported Gravity
Aventinus Eisbock
De Dolle Dulle Teve (Mad Bitch)
Eggenberg Ur-Bock
Fantome Ete
Fantome Saison
Gale's Prize Old Ale 1998
Golden Carolus
Golden Carolus Noel
Kiuchi Hitachino New Year's Celebration Eisbock
Kulmbacher G'frorns Eisbock
JW Lees Vintage Harvest Ale 2003 (cask/Lagavulin)
JW Lees Vintage Harvest Ale 2003 (cask/Port)
Jopen Koyt
Samichlaus (kegged 2001)
St. Feuillien Cuvee de Noel
Schlenkerla Rauchbier Ur-Bock
Vapeur Cochonne

No financial interest on my part whatsoever, I post this only in the
interests of good beer and fairness; Rich O's and the New Albanian BC are
consistently overlooked when great beer bars are talked about, and that, my
friends, is a crime.

Location, location, location. (And for the latter, distribution,
distribution, distribution.)

Incidentally, Rich O's came up in conversation with a
beer snob or two just a couple days ago.

Hmmmmmm..... MapQuest(R) says it's a tad under 4 hours
from here by car. All I have to do is snare a designated
driver and I'm set!

Well, yes, but not just here. Oh, hell, you're right, they're in flyover
territory. Still ain't right. Wonder how many great ones are out there that
only Stan and Daria know about? New Albanian really does deserve better
attention, though, putting out some really good, really interesting beers
(that means, ones I like).

Yeah, what's four hours?

Their clothes are weird, their music sucks and they drink
malternatives. And now you tell me they probably don't think Sierra
Nevada is cool? This is what the passage of years does to you: It
makes everyone around you more stupid. -- Michael Stewart 6/24/02

Located in New Albany, IN. The Louisville airport (SDF) is twenty minutes
from Richo's. Well worth the trip for G. Head as long as you don't come on
opening night, it is way past overcrowded.

Tips are well-appreciated, I'm sure, but I'm reasonably sure what Joel meant
was that Rich O's "location" is fairly off the beaten beer-geek path (Boston
to DC, Chicago to Madison via Milwaukee, Ft. Collins to Denver, and
Anchorage to San Diego).

Yes, and not enough else going on in New Albany to warrant
spending a beer vacation on (versus places like Portlan/Seattle,
Boston, Chicago, etc.).

Heck, for me to get there by plane I'd have to spend
longer in the air and in airports than it'd take me to
drive there.

Well, a bourbon drinker wouldn't necessarily agree! But there is one weird
beer thing going on in the Louisville area that makes sense: there are times
during the year when you can sample four different bourbon-barrel stouts
from local breweries, including New Albany's own BourbonDaddy.
