Has anybody seen Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale in the lower NY area or
in New England? I have read postings of it coming close, however nobody
around me (Poughkeepsie, NY) has posted and I am getting thirsty for
this hop monster. This beer has ALWAYS seen here on November 1st for
the past 4 years, however I am starting to get worried this year because
I haven't read of any NY sightings. Can anybody help ease my
apprehensions?

Thanks in advance,
Sponge Monkey Bob

I tried Half Time since they have the best selection of beers around
this area and they haven't had it and said it should be in within a
couple of weeks. That was a few days ago. Has anybody actually bought
Celebration Ale anywhere in the Poughkeepsie, New York area lately?

Thanks Again,

I'd bet that if Half Time says it should be in within a couple of weeks,
that it will not be in the Poughkeepsie area for a couple of weeks. I'd
imagine they're pretty tight with the beer distributors around the area.

I'm in Atlanta for 3 mo, and I really miss half time. That stupid ban
on 5% beers won't be lifted until jan 1st here

Gary's in Madison NJ had it... I scored a 6 pack there yesterday along with 6
packs of the Harpoon, Weyebachar (yes, I know I can't spell it) and even
Stoudt's winter beers.

I passed on the Geary's HSA. I simply refuse to buy it now that it's brewed
year round... oh who am I kidding, I'm sure to break down and get it after the
holidays.

I felt the same way you did about the Geary's, but I bought it anyway
and was glad I did. I didn't think it lived up to other years, but that
was probably just because I was upset about it not being seasonal.
Don't put off buying it, it is still a great beer.

I always wondered why Sierra Nevada didn't produce Celebration Ale year
round. Now I realize it would only take away from the mystique and the
"hunt" each year and the re-awakening of my taste buds. (I LOVE those
hops!) I wish there were more seasonal beers and less everyday beers.
That way it would give me something to look forward to every 3 months
from a multitude of brewers.

You may also want to try Hyde Park Beverage. They have had it from time to
time...

While their current oktoberfest is decent, overall I am very unimpressed
with the quality of their standard and most of their seasonal brews.

If you're in that general area, I recommend the 25min drive across to
New Paltz to the Guilded Otter. Everything I've tasted from their,
except that crazy blueberry beer they had recently, is excellent.

I'd disagree, because the SOB's I've had have been uniformly delicious, as
is the Schwarzbier.

I get to the Otter when I can, Darren's beers are great...too. Had any of
Tommy's beers from Keegan Ales yet? Nice stuff.

The Keegan Ales I have seen around Kingston are pre-poured into growlers
and only have the name of the beer on the label. There is no
description of the beer, i.e. porter, stout, IPA, etc. I am skeptical
to buy a beer without called Mothers Milk without a label. I am also
skeptical to buy one that appears to be poured from somebody's home tap
system into a growler, unless I watch them do it. While I trust Lew's
opinion on everything, I refuse to buy an unlabeled beer, because I
don't know what is in the beer. Can't they spend the two cents on a label?

Understandable, especially the part about trusting me. Mother's Milk is a
milk stout, Hurricane Kitty is a bitchin' IPA, and the Golden is, well, a
pretty decent blonde ale. As for being poured from a home tap into a
growler, it's poured at the brewery from their tap, which has a run of about
four feet. It's probably cleaner than you'll see in most bars. And if the
idea of hand-bottled beer on the shelf bugs ya, well, again understandable,
but I had a hand-poured growler of Berkshire in my fridge for two
YEARS...and it was fine. It's up to you, but if I WERE you, I'd hike my ass
up to Kingston, try the beers, and then start buying growlers. You'll want
to refill them.

Well I took Lew's advice (trusting him once again) and bought a growler
of Hurricane Kitty, which was the only Keegan Ale on tap at my local
beer store. Lew was right again.(anybody surprised?) It was a
fabulously hoppy beer, close to Rogue's I2PA, but for less than half the
price. Thanks Lew, I never would have tried it without your advice.
It's always nice to find a new, great beer. I can't wait to try their
other offerings.

My real mission was to find the elusive Celebration Ale. For at least 5
years, this bear has ALWAYS showed up by November 1st at the latest.
This year nobody has it! I've checked around at various web sites
(www.beeradvocate.com, www.ratebeer.com, etc.) and see that SNCA is in
NYC, Mass., New Jersey, Ohio, Pa.! Everywhere but
Kingston/Poughkeepsie, NY. Hurricane Kitty is holding me over tonight,
but I don't know what I'll do tomorrow. Has anybody spotted it anywhere
near the Kingston/Poughkeepsie area? I openly admit that I am an SNCA
addict and I am happy being so.
